I'm just a bit curious here. I'm not sure if this is the best forum for this question but I figured since this is a forum for authors I might have abetter chance at getting an answer.

What is with the Pat Smith thing? I have read nine different stories in the last week that have Pat or Pat Smith as the main character. Is there something I missed along the way that makes this name more sexy sounding than something a bit less generic?

as a point I mean the none add your own name stories that have Pat Smith as the main character.

I've noticed this also, and honestly it disturbs me some. I really tend to dislike the name Pat, And I try to use a variety of names in all of my stories, even trying to avoid using the same name twice. Yes I agree, a less generic name would be less disturbing, and Pat is so plain and unsexy. I've noticed this, and it has bugged me, I'm surprised nobody mentioned it before. I'm not going to blame it on lack of imagination, because a lot of the stories with a Pat or Pat Smith don't lack imagination at all, but... that is all.;)

In stories where you can choose the name of the main character Pat Smith is the default if you don't enter a name. I guess the people who run Chyoo chose it because Pat Smith could be male or female.

This I realised but I was speaking specifically of the stories were you don't add your own name.

haha...maybe those who haven't realised that think that everyone's main character is Pat Smith...so they have to conform to standards...so to speak...haha...yea it irritates me too...
