Perhaps I've seen you working late in your office as my train rolls past your building on the way to Paddington. Perhaps you've been one of those who've rushed past me, still in your business attire, heading for a tube or waiting in a taxi queue for another lonely night of take away or microwave meals and channel surfing. Talking with people all over the world on the Internet but never meeting. Having cybersex with strangers when what you really want is.... a friend.

Someone to know and care for. To care about you - how your day was, what you did, how you feel. Someone who does not mind your marital status but rather your inner being. And, in the fullness of time phone chats until you know one another like a book and - yes - perhaps skirting the issue of sexuality and all of its expressions flirtatiously fraught with promise. Or not. And then, the meeting.

Friends with ties so strong that they can endure temporary physical separations. Oceans are not enough to break our bond.
