no, no...not you guys...i'm looking for someone with experience either giving or receiving acupuncture...

i've been controling mild arthritis in my knees and shoulders for a couple of years with glucosamine sulfate and try not to take pain relievers unless absolutely necessary...lately i've been having a lot of trouble with my left hand and since i make my living as a musician and woodworker i worry about losing mobility there...

i recently met an acupuncturist and am considering treatment...have read a good bit about it and am open minded about it but would like some feedback (positive or negative) from anyone with experience....

thanks

Sorry I don't know about acupuncture. But here in New Zealand you can buy magnetic underlays for your bed. This is a blanket with small magnets sewen into it. My Mum has one and it helps her arthritis 95%. It helps with all kinds of aches and pains. :)

Also cut out the red meat and drink heaps of pure apple juice :)

Accupuncture would be a good place to start, though the results vary with each practitioner/patient.

Another avenue to explore is Reiki (sp?). I can send you some info if you're interested.

That was me up there.

TH's mention of magnetic therapy is a good one too. I use magnetic therapy on my horses after particularly tough workouts, or long trail rides. Especially those horses that are prone to aches, arthritis, etc. Works very well.

I practically live on glucosamine, and am also exploring alternative treatments for my knee.

My mother has sever joint degeneration in her neck, and acupuncture has made a world of difference for her, but people can respond differently - while it works wonders for her, it actually makes things worse for me. I'd recommend giving it a try: just make sure you are going to someone who is qualified, and don't forget to ask if they reuse their needles - and if they do, ask what sort of disinfecting procedure they use!

the fellow i'm considering has been at it for 15 years so he should be good and thanks for the heads up about re-using needles..hadn't thought of that...

as to the reiki...i live in a really cool small community that is really into alternative medicine..and life styles as far as that's concerned...and there are probably 5 or 6 practitioners here...

i hadn't thought about magnets before but i'll look into it and it just made me think of the people i've known that wore copper bracelets...might give one of those a try..

you know, i just took a real close look at crysede's av and i feel better already....hmmm..

Oooooo, my av has magical healing powers!! It's a miracle - praise the goddess of tattoos and be healed my son!

Try obtaining DMSO and rubbing it on your joints. Some say it cures arthritis. Worth a shot, it's cheap.

I drove about 8000 miles this summer and did something god awful to my wrists in the meantime....I was in Portland when the pain became excruciating and made an appointment for acupuncture without any expectations at all. After one session the pain was virtually gone. When I say virtually, I mean to the point where it went from chronic to just sometimes when I drove for many hours at once.

One session making all better is not the norm, but such was my experience. I know a handful of people who also swear by it.

Good luck to ya,

Alex
