I’ve never been to America and there is a vague possibility I may be going to California for a few weeks in September.

It’s a little frightening (to be honest) as I know absolutely nothing of America. Are there areas to stay away from? What’s the weather like at that time of the year? Any things I should definitely see? What are the best music clubs? Can I get a decent cup of tea? *smile*

I'm from Dublin.

it was really bad advice. california is quite warm. drink LOTS of water. seriously, you'll be dehydrated.

I'm in Seattle. same weather as the East Coast of Ireland.

Lovely - rains a lot? *smile*

liquid sunshine! I love it.

not many good thunderstorms though, because of the mountains.

HEY!

could you get me a job in a pub over there?

I live in Central Calif. and it's almost all agricultural. Of course you must see San Francisco. That's where I think you'll find the best of the best in culture, entertainment, and of course food.
Gypsywitch could probably fill you in more about The Bay Area. (Yikes I hope she doesn't mind).

Yes, San Francisco would be a great place to start.

:)

That's where I'm going and will be spending most of my time with, if things work out, a few days in Losa Angeles

Shouldn't be a problem - we have quite a number. Can you sing?

I sing very very well. I originally went to college to sing opera and soon realized that there are more than enough loud tenors in the world. I can bartend too.

I am serious! if you could get me a job down the pub, I'll be on a plane within a week.

Get your work permit, lad, you'd be an oddity with an accent and the girls will be trying to drag you into the snug.
Of course, realising where we are posting, don't know if that's your cup of tea.

crap, GLBT.

I just saw the heading under "new posts"

Not that I'm antigay, it's just not my thing. usually.

I was thinking more along the "on the sly" lines until I could get my permit, post facto

*shoced* That would be illegal. *smile* It's a little difficult now with the EU but if you can claim some ancestry *wink* it may work.

I have Dutch citizenship.

Nevada is close to Californa... Um, watch out for the wild fires.

You CAN renew it, you know. Once you have a EU passport, you can go anywhere.

pre-EU

Passpoort van der Koninkrijk der Nederlanden

That doesn't matter. Mine is still issued by Ireland. Just renew and you'll get a pretty EU passport. Very useful.

Don’t understand the reference – sorry.

I live in Las Vegas, Nevada.
California has been having horrible wild fires. Lots of people losing their homes.

Awful. I didn’t know. I’m terribly ignorant of American specifics. I’ll have to check the map I was sent to see where Nevada is.
