California Dilutes Jessica's Law

Grampa Kiddiefucker likes to stay up to date on the latest trends in sex offender laws.

No surprise there. None.

Looks like the courts don't want kids being molested. Hard to argue against that.

They're not, but I'd love to hear your explanation.

Under the law, convicted child molesters had to keep a certain distance from schools, etc. However, because this inconvenienced the bastards, that part of the law, and maybe other parts, will be eliminated or softened.

Following a March 2 ruling by the California Supreme Court, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation announced Wednesday that they would no longer enforce a key provision of the 2006 voter-passed Proposition 83. The proposition came to be known as Jessica’s Law, named after Jessica Lunsford, a nine-year-old girl who was raped and murdered in 2005. Part of that law prohibited sex offenders from living within 2,000 feet of a school or park. Because this provision led to increased homelessness, however, California officials are walking it back. California Supreme Court Justice Marvin Baxter wrote that Jessica’s Law had “increased the incidence of homelessness among [sex offenders], and hindered their access to medical treatment, drug and alcohol dependency services, psychological counseling, and other rehabilitative social services available to all parolees.” - See more at: http://unfilteredpatriot.com/califo...rs-to-live-near-schools/#sthash.Dij6O5SL.dpuf

I wouldn't think they would be able to do that, since the law is a voter-passed initiative.

The law is still the law.

Which would you rather have, an ex child molester getting rehabilitative services or an ex child molester methed out of his skull with nothing to lose roaming the street?

I'd rather have an active one prevented from hanging out by the schoolyard. I have my doubts there is any such thing as rehabilitative services for one of these guys, just as there is none for gays or lesbian. That's not to compare the two, but both groups are sort of aberrations, at least biologically speaking. The difference is the child molesters do harm and gays and lesbians don't.

You didn't answer the question.

Of course we'd all like to live in that world, but that's not the world we live in. You can have your doubts that child molesters can't be rehabilitated, it looks like experts in the field believe they can.

I understand where you're coming from.....but tbh the law is fucking retarded. Like 'Gun Free Zone' level of fuckin' stupid...SOUNDS GOOD!!! but it's fuckin' stupid.

Look if a psycho is going to go fuck/kill kids....2000 ft ain't going to fuckin' stop shit any more than a gun free zone law and we all fucking know it. That's literally a 5min STROLL....if he was in a hurry to get some he could prob do it in a min flat on foot....maybe 90 seconds.

Add some transportation to the equation and you're talking about imposing literally a 30 second inconvenience on kiddy fucker predation.......that's faster than a double cheeseburger fast man.....think about that.

Now tell me how much actual kiddy fucking that dumb shit law prevented.....if you're being honest with yourself the answer is, TA DAAAAAA!!!! not a god damn one.

This was a "Fuck you kiddy fucker" law...cool...but it has apparently caused a bigger problem than the one it did nothing to stop anyhow. So what is wrong with taking a step back to find a new way to be dicks to kiddy fuckers that don't cause unforeseen problems?

I mean if this were a "Hey it's ok to fuck kids in CA now!!" law or something I would be right with you....I'd be writing letters and blowing my elected officials inbox/phone up like a mother fucker time today. Totally fucking outraged....

Now if we can just get them to shake the stupid fuckin gun laws too...that would be great.

Some of these same "experts" believe gayness can be cured too. :(

the reason why they are now allowed NEAR SCHOOLS is to prevent them from driving and spewing CARBON in the air

after all, GLOWBALL WHINING is a serious issue:cool:

You started it, so you name your experts; I'll name mine.

Here's one: http://www.psychsearch.net/psychiatrist-believes-gayness-can-be-cured/

Here's another: http://christwire.org/2012/02/ted-haggard-returns-to-the-pulpit-completely-cured/

Grossman is a psychiatrist that specializes in pediatrics... aka children and teens.... so.... no.. she's not an expert on human sexuality

the second link is actually a satire site.. and is painfully so...unless you think " gay away" is a legitimate drug sold over the counter

The link on the side to an article that offers, "irrefutable proof Obama is a brony", and the "penis flavored gay away" weren't tips that you just posted a parody site when asked for an expert.

Thanks. I'll be laughing about this all day.

The first link is to a psychiatrist and the second, although it may be mocking the subject, is still citing what the subject claimed to have undergone.

I'm still waiting to hear anything from the "experts" you cited.

Just because a law has popular support, or was instituted by referendum rather than through the legislative process doesn't mean that all of it's provisions are constitutional, or fair.

I had my doubts about the fairness and constitutionality of Megan's Law/ Jessica's Law at the time. Apparently they haven't made a statistical difference in preventing these horrific crimes.

A better question is why are dangerous people being released from prison?

I fear the answer is prison overcrowding caused by The War on Drugs. Couldn't we be better served putting drug users under house arrest?

Prison overcrowding is one major reason, and it is mostly because of the War on Drugs. However, some judges are dipshits and give out sentences like six months in a county jail for raping a child. Megan's and Jessica's Laws do help. At least they keep some pedophiles off the streets for long periods of time.

I'm glad to hear that they are at least doing some good. I had this in mind (from the Wikipedia) on Megan's Law-

Study of effectiveness[edit]

A December 2008 study of the law in New Jersey concluded that it had no effect on community tenure (i.e., time to first re-arrest), showed no demonstrable effect in reducing sexual re-offenses, had no effect on the type of sexual re-offense or first time sexual offense (still largely child molestation), and had no effect on reducing the number of victims of sexual offenses. The authors felt that given the lack of demonstrated effect of the law on sexual offenses, its growing costs may not be justifiable.[3]

The first link is to a psychiatrist

who is not an expert... her field is not even remotely related.. she's giving her opinion and not actually being able to support it

and the second, although it may be mocking the subject, is still citing what the subject claimed to have undergone.

he's also not an expert
otherwise.. every person that's come out of the closet would be considered an expert and would make his " expertise" so trivial as to be laughable
