A California state senator proposed state-wide net neutrality law on Thursday in the wake of the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) decision to repeal net neutrality rules.

"If the FCC won’t stand up for a free and open internet, California will," State Sen. Scott Wiener (D) wrote in a piece on Medium.

"My legislation will bring net neutrality requirements to California. There are several ways we can bring net neutrality to California," he said. "California can regulate business practices to require net neutrality, condition state contracts on adhering to net neutrality, and require net neutrality as part of cable franchise agreements, as a condition to using the public right-of-way for internet infrastructure, and in broadband packages."

Wiener said that he would work over the next 60 days to draft the legislation before formally introducing it.
In other words, companies will enforce net neutrality in California or lose the right to do business in California.

Fuckin' brutal.

I love how pro states rights blue states are all of a sudden after being knocked off their "FEDERAL SUPREMACY!!!" high horse.

Now if we could just start applying that live and let live shit to other things, we'd all be getting along a lot better.

NY should lead the way by offering freed healthcare to any and all who show up, no racist borders or immigration policy of any kind.......except white males, fuck them. Paid for by the people of NY of course, triple so the white males because that's what born Nazi's get.

As I've mentioned, California is now the world's 6th largest economy, 5th largest if discounting the rest of USA. This is like France or Italy (the next largest economies) saying, "Abide by our rules or go away." I somehow doubt the major ISPs will abandon this huge market.

Don't be surprised if a number of other states follow suit.

I think one of the problems in Government is too many Wieners.

The new FCC ruling has language that prevents states from enforcing extra NN regulations.

This is positioning for a court showdown.

This is actually California following suit. Washington was first.

State attorneys general line up to sue FCC over net ...
Attorneys general from "across the country" will sue the Federal Communications Commission in an ... It's not clear which other states will be involved in the lawsuit.
Yeah. That's the other end of it. States are suing the FCC to stop the order. In the case of Washington and CA, it would be the FCC suing the states for not following it.

Something about a two-front war is coming to mind. But let's not get into who is Hitler in that analogy.

States rights, it ain't just for racists anymore!

What about the cost of living? What about the extremes between those who have and those who have not? A statistic out of context is a lie by omission.

Not to worry, our republicans are taking care of that as we speak.

Oh wait...

In other words, allow multi billion dollar media corporations (the vast majority of which reside in CA) to stream content from their websites as cheaply as it costs to run Lit. This senator is protecting Disney, Google, Facebook, Netflix etc... those are the companies pushing for "net neutrality" and they have manipulated the public into thinking net neutrality is all about the little people. It isn't.

Who is tricking the public into seeing it that way? You're kinda contradicting yourself.

Google, Facebook et al wants everyone to believe net neutrality bnefits the little people. The reality is, this fight is billionaire cable companies vs billionaire content provders.

How does it benefit Google when Verizon throttles google searches in favor of Verizon?

They're not all the same conglomerate and wouldn't piss on each other if on fire.
