Maybe you remember that I once started a thread on how much I loved the Calvin & Hobbes comics.

I lend the books from a friend and read them as a child and now got the idea to buy the books myself.

A couple of days I received my first book and it fucking ROCKS !!!!
The first time I read them in english and it's so much better than trhe translated version.

The way it's drawn is superb, cute nd funny at the same time. The ideas are just hilarious and reflect the thoughts of a six-year old very well and Calvin's dialogue is just awesome.

Everytime he say something like 'rats.' I lie on the floor laughing.

It just rocks.

I love Calvin and Hobbes too. They used to be in the newspaper my dad bought and I'd always find the daily strip funny.

You they rock!

The first guy I ever fell in love with had a tattoo of Hobbes. It impressed me very much. I love Calvin and Hobbes!

Count me as a big big fan. I have most of the books, and they are all dog eared from so much reading.

Calvin: What's it like to fall in love?
Hobbes: Well... Say the object of your affection walks by...
Calvin: Yeah?
Hobbes: First, your heart falls into your stomach and splashes your
innards. All the moisture makes you sweat profusely. This
condensation shorts the circuits to your brain, and you get all
woozy. When your brain burns out altogether, your mouth
disengages and you babble like a cretin until she leaves.
Calvin: That's love?!?
Hobbes: Medically speaking.
Calvin: Heck, that happened to me once, but I figured it was cooties!

I'm a huge Calvin & Hobbes fan...have most of the books. They got even funnier once my first son got around 5 years old, and now, with a 4-year-old bringing up the rear, I'm even more appreciative.

Some of my favorites:

"You know, Hobbes, some days even my lucky rocketship underpants don't help."

"There's an inverse relationship between how good something is for you, and how much fun it is. "

"A good compromise leaves everybody mad."

"It's not denial. I'm just selective about the reality I accept."

Calvin: "I've been thinking, Hobbes."
Hobbes: "On a weekend?"
Calvin: "Well, it wasn't on purpose..."

and I think this is the best of all:

"I asked Mom if I was a gifted child...she said they certainly wouldn't have paid for me." :D

Mom: Either he's playing classical music at 78 rpm again or I'm still dreaming.

Dad: First thing in the morning I'm calling the orphanage.

My fave:

Calvin: What happens when we die?

Hobbes: I believe we play saxophone in a all girl cabaret in Pittsburgh.

(Pause)

Calvin: So, you believe in heaven then?

Hobbes: Call it what you will.

Speaking about translations, with Steen & Stoffer,

what the heck was Denmark thinking?

That's awful !!!

Ok, I have told this twice before but my most favourite C&H strip is a very cute one. It's when Calvin stands in the pouring rain, waiting for the bus, having shitty lunch, receiving an 'F' in school, and having a complete shitty day. When he comes home in a totally disastrous mood he is attacked by Hobbes. They fight all over the house.

Then his mom asks him how his day has been and he replies...'Getting better !'

That really touched me....even when I was only 12 at that time.

Or how about this one...

C&H are taking a walk in the woods.

Calvin: 'The best part about these hikes is getting to see so much wildlife !'

LOOK, A tiger !'

Hobbes, jumps terrified: 'A TIGER ?!??!?!'

Hobbes thinks about it: 'Don't DO that !'

Snoopy, :D :D :D
