Here’s my worry about this: As a submissive male on the transgender continuum (I don’t fully crossdress, but I wear some feminine items of clothing every day), I fear this publicity will cause more hysteria, fear, confusion, and hate directed towards gender-diverse people. Early reports may be inaccurate, but make it sound like he is a fetishist. Nothing wrong with that, IMO. He may or may not have been hiding it from her. He appears to have been supporting her anti-trans and anti-gay political agenda, which, if true, is horrible hypocrisy.
As someone who myself grew up in a conservative religious family and early in my life began wanting to wear the clothing of the other gender and be a girl, I do have empathy for him. I have zero for her.
My main concern is how this sensationalism will hurt the trans and fetish communities.
The other thing that is scary about this for those of us who need privacy (of course he is a public figure, or his wife is), is how his private information was exposed. How vulnerable are all of us?
