what is the best way to price a vehicle?

what do I have to consider when comparing two cars (van truck jeep)

i'm going through the same thing now for a truck fly. i've found a couple of sites pretty helpful. type in blue book to a google search and you'll be able to get suggested retail and private owner pricing on just about any new or used car. just follow the menu.

type in kipplinger's and you'll find a site for consumer product reviews.

hope that helps some.

Once you decide which car you want there is only one way to buy a car unless you enjoy going from one dealer to the next and being run through the mill at every one.

Go to www.edmunds.com and find the Fair Market Value and Dealer Invoice for the vehicle. The FMV is the average selling price for the vehicle in your area. Next, send an email to all the dealers in your area (make sure all the email addresses appear in the cc) that shows the Dealer Invoice and say you will buy the vehicle from whoever gives you the best drive out price - what it will cost you to drive it out the door. Period. Make it easy for them and include your phone number. Compare the results with the data you got from Edmunds, and call the dealer you want to buy the car from. Make sure they understand if the price is higher than what they quoted when you arrive, you will leave immediately.

No doubt there will be a few posts from people who say they got great deals. The only way to find out is with objective data like Edmunds. A "good deal" is whatever the customer thinks is a good deal. Just remember this: some people think they are tough negotiators and can squeeze the dealer. The fact is most people buy a car every few years. Car salesmen negotiate deals 5-10 times every day.
