Steven Polaski walked down the sidewalk whistling happilly to himself, a bunch of flowers in his hand as he passed a store window, a news broadcast playing on a tv screen in the window. "In recent news, Mayor Lexi Huntington was removed from office after having been found guilty of forging her birth certificate. And after further investigation it was revealed that she is a DL 4 Replicant." Steven just walked on past, not really paying attention as he did. It was five minutes before he was supposed to meet his date and he saw her appartment just ahead, so he kicked his feet and climbed the steps oblivious to the world around him, he ws so happy at the moment.

The Date

The TV in Nicole McBeth's apartment was blaring, as she stepped out of the shower.

"In recent news, Mayor Lexi Huntington was removed from office after having been found guilty of forging her birth certificate. And after further investigation it was revealed that she is a DL 4 Replicant."

"I didn't know the Mayor was a Replicant. A DL 4 model to boot." Nicole muttered under her breath. She shrugged to disturbing news away, as she finished dressing for her date.

A simple black spagetti strap dress, with a short red jacket. The first pair of nylons she took out had a run in them, so she put them in the trash, and chose a pair of dark stocking, and a black garter belt. A white belt and a pair or 2 inch pumps completed her outfit.

Stepping into the kitchen, she poured herself a small glass of red wine.

"That should calm my nerves a minute." She muttered to no one in particular.

Soon there was a knock on her door.....

"Hi Nicole..." Steven was practicing. "These are for you!" He smiled, offering the flowers to the closed door. Laughing nervously to himself he settled them back to his side and knocked. "Hi... Um... Hi..." He mumbled under his breath as he waited at the door. "Ah, come on Steve, calm down man..." He whispered to himself. He was rather nervous, cause up until a week ago, Nicole had been really standoffish... He'd always see her in passing on his lunch break, and finally, a year after things had ended with Leah, his ex, he'd asked Nicole on a date.

A nervous Steve at my door

Opening the door upon his knock, Nicole invited Steve in.

"Would you like a glass of wine?" She asked, handing him an emply glass, and about to pour from the bottle of wine in her hand. She sensed he was nervous, and had been from the time they met. She hadn't been sure she should "date" at this point, though she had found him attractive. He had a certain charm about him she couldn't quite put her finger on.

"Oh, are those for me?" She said, pointing to flowers in his hand.

Steven:

Steven held the glass Nicole had handed him in his palm, flashing a smile. She pointed at the flowers he was holding and he extended them out to her in responce. "These are for you." He said just as she asked. He laughed a little at that and handed her the flowers. "Yeah, a glass of wine would be nice..." He sighed, still smiling as he ran a hand through his chestnut brown hair, feathering it back. He glanced her over then as she turned to to retrieve the bottle of wine. "You look positively wonderful tonight Nicole..." He found himself saying aloud as he walked over beside her.

"Why thank you Steve." She flashed him a grin as she poured his wine, then headed into the kitchen for a vase. Retrieving her glass of wine, and the vase with flowers in tow, she headed toward the living room couch. Setting the flowers on the coffee table, she motioned for him to join her.

"Please sit." she motioned toward the couch. "Let's sip our wine before going out. Perhaps some of your nervousness will subside after a glass or two."

Steven:

With a slight chuckle, Steve sunk down onto the couch next to her. "I was that obvious huh?" He smiled over the rim of his wine glass as he scented it then took a sip. "Mmm, you have good taste in wine." He tilted his head. "Merlot?"

"Yes, 'fraid so. Frankly I sensed it when you asked me out. Thought I'd help with the wine for starters. Yes a Merlot, from Napa Valley, CA. Good wine from there."

She paused as she sipped her wine pondering her next thoughts. She hoped he wouldn't ask too many personal questions on their first date. That always felt awkward to her, and frankly, she didn't want to talk about where she came from.

Steven:

"Mmm, I've never been to California... Lived here most my life... Where are you from originally? Any family near by?" He asked as he sipped slowly at the wine. He looked about the room for a moment, then back at her.

"I'm actually from California.....Silicon Valley they call it. Ouside of San Jose. Napa Valley is North of San Francisco. Wine country it is..." She trailed off, trying to avoid the family question. "What did you have in mind for this evening?"

Steven:

"Mmm! You were from Sillicon Valley? Thats where they introduced the first humanoid Replicants..." He finished his glass of wine then, and sat it on the end table next to him. "I have reservations at la Parisianne for eight o clock." He paused for a moment then asked. "So, your parents must have been involved with the Rep project?"

The question he posed made her a little nervous. How did he know where the Replicants were first introduced.....could he??? Naw, surely not.....

"I'm not really sure what my parents did, to be honest. I left as soon as I could, and haven't spoken to them in years." she simply stated, trying not to sound to attached or fearful. She wasn't going to go near her question of his knowledge.

"Well, I'm ready if you are, unless you'd like another glass of wine." Nicole replied.

Steven:

"Yes, if we leave now, we should get there just about in time..." Steve stood up and offered his hand to Nicole. "I had to park my car just down the block.

"Sure, I'm ready." Nicole finished her glass of wine, and takes the glasses back into the kitchen. She rejoins him and together they leave the apartment, and out into the fresh evening air. Relieved he didn't ask anymore questions, she sigh slightly under her breath.

Steven:

Steve admired how gracefully Nicole moved as they walked out of her appartment and down the block to his car. He noticed her sigh. "Are you alright Nicole?" He asked as he opened the passenger side door for her.

"Yea, I'm fine....." She stuttered. She'd hoped he hadn't heard her sigh. Better watch it...he's pretty perceptive. Nicole just hoped the subject wouldn't come up again for the duration of the evening.

She brushed back her long blond hair, as she entered his car, locating the seat belt almost without thinking. The top of her stockings showing slightly as she twisted her body adjusting herself and the belt. Her mind was somewhere else entirely, and hadn't noticed her skirt had ridden up further showing the tops of her thighs.

Steven:

Tilting his head in a nod, Steve went about the car and got into the drivers seat, looking over at her as he started the car, he caught sight of the creamy skin of her thighs. Turning to face forward, he felt his cheeks grow warm for a moment as he let the sudden spark of arousal ease away. "We can catch a movie after dinner if you like, or maybe go dancing." He offered, because he hadn't really settled on what to do after dinner. He looked over toward her again as he pulled out onto the street, keeping his eyes up, fighting the urge to peek back to and see if her thighs were still showing. The thought of them, though, made him uncomfortably hard and he had to shift in his seat. He felt himself blushing again.

Nicole, still deep in thought, considers his suggestions. Looking down, she notices her skirt has ridden up a bit more than it should, and she readjusts it to cover herself

"Why don't we see how dinner goes, and go from there." she replies. Looking out the window, she remembers the news broadcast about the Replicant Mayor. She hadn't realized any of them had been attempting to hold any office, and wonders how that could have happened. The laws were very straightforward regarding public offices. And what did Steve know of Replicants? His casual remarks began to bother her more as she contemplated all these facts.

Perhaps this date wasn't such a good idea, afterall.

OOC: This is just to introduce Steven's ex, Leah won't reappear until the morning.

Leah Campbell:
Sipping daintily from a glass of red wine, Leah reclined gracefully on the sofa, glaring at the papers laid out before her on the coffee table. She didn't normal drink alone, but this evening she felt she really deserved a little something after what Steven had pulled. There had been a problem with the new Fido2000 model in beta testing: not that this was surprising, Replicant technology was very complex, even when just dealing with dogs and other pets, so there were bound to be initial problems. As slight smile graced her lips as she remembered the events in the lab, it had actually been quite funny: Fido humping away at the leg of one of the young lab techs, while the embarrassed young man had futilely hopped around trying to shake the dog loose.

The peripheral pleasure response system had clearly gotten caught in a feedback loop, somewhat like the process of human sexual arousal. A slight modification of the biofeedback sensitivity would solve the problem, and this fact was so trivially obvious that she had not thought to mention it to the other members on the board of directors. Next thing you know, her son-of-a- bitch ex is suggesting it to the board as though it were some ingenious solution rather than patently obvious! She knew why he had done it of course: he was, as usual, trying to goad her into leaving the company they'd co-founded, but it would be a cold day in hell before she'd give up her position on the board or as head of neurodesign.

Scowling, she set her glass down and picked up Fido's biofeedback documentation: now it was going to look like she was following the bastard's advice! Picking up a pencil she started scribbling notes on the pages, she had to get the design modifications worked out before meeting with their new engineer, Seth, so he could begin implementing the changes immediately. Seth might even be able to have a new unit ready for testing the next day, given his youth, he had an uncanny understanding of Rep technology. Not that at 31 she was all that old, she thought to herself with a chuckle, there were certainly no ravages of age to be found on her lithe figure.

"Yes, okay..." Steven coughed. "Say, I never asked you what you do at Fulstein & Rander... I work up on the fifty-seventh floor, you know, Replapet..." He paused. "I actually co-founded it..." He looked over toward Nicole to see her reaction then back to the road as they passed a bill board that read: God created man, man built replacants, vote yes to proposal C74. He made the turn into the restaurants parking lot then, a poster hung in the front window. It depicted a down trodden looking man hunched over along the bottom and above a man dressed in an oxford cloth suit, half his face was made of twisted wire, the other was mockingly human. It read: In today's society, it's hard to tell who is really human anymore. Replicants live among us now, and they are invading what we have worked so hard to achive. Jobs, our family lives, even our homes. Be sure to register your children with the Homeland Security database, so, like the rest of the natural world, we can still keep what's real.

Steven didn't seem to even notice it.

"Well, Fulstein & Rander is actually a transportation firm. Our clients come to us to move their products from point A to point B, and we make all the arrangements, whether by plane, train, ship, truck, or any combination, and see to it the products get there. We also act as a broker for some of the larger transportation companys." Nicole neglected to mention the majority of their "products" consisted of human replicants being assigned to various aspects in society. She ignored the blaring bilboard as they passed it.

Steven:

All during the meal, Steven was cheerful and gentlemanly, and not as pitifully shy after another glass of wine. There was one moment when, over candle light, he looked into Nicole's eyes, took hold of her hand and kissed the back of it lightly, all the while, keeping his eyes locked with her's. They talked while they ate and he told her how, through his line of work, he had a GL7 level clearance to classified Replicant technological documentations. He seemed rather proud of that fact too. With the meal done, Steve asked. "So, Nicole, what would you like to do next?"

Lexi Huntington

She had barely had time to grab a backpack and stuff clothes into it, running away from her apartment just as the authorities were arriving. She'd withdrawn all the credits in her bank account before running home, causing her to lose valuable time.

She walked briskly through the alleyway trying to sort things out. Her life had been normal, the way she'd always wanted it to be. No one had been the wiser. How... She began softly crying now. How had they found out? What harm had she caused? She had been the best mayor the city had ever had, had had glowing reports from all sectors of the city. Did that mean nothing now, now that they knew?

Her tears had blinded her and she stumbled, catching herself against the brick building she'd been passing. She stopped long enough to readjust the hormonal levels coursing through her body. Her head began to clear and she began thinking straighter.

She needed to do something about her appearance. Her image would be plastered up on every news board, every news handset for hundreds of miles outside the city. Then she remembered another replicant, one who owned a beauty studio. She'd head there and see if there wasn't something she could do to help.

Dinner had been pleasant enough, a couple of glasses of wine, and the food had been appropriate enough. Nicole couldn't help thinking about whether she was doing the right thing or not, seeing this man that knew so much about replicants. She didn't let anything go that revealed her knowledge of the subject, and actually feigned innocence of knowing anything at all. Her keen sense of hearing overheard fragmented statements regarding the former mayor, and Nicole did her best to not dwell on it. It seemed the whole city was in an uproar about it.

Steven: "So, Nicole, what would you like to do next?"

"How 'bout a nice quiet movie somewhere?" She replied. A roomful of noisy people did not appeal to her, so at this time, dancing was out. But perhaps a good movie would get her mind off of current events.

Steven:

"Okay, how about that new Ang Lee film?" Steven offered as he motioned the waiter over, got the bill and paid. "I've heard its supposed to be really good." He stood then, and put down a tip after the waiter had gone, then pulled Nicole's seat out for her.
