Sorry this happened to you. Get yourself a lawyer. Not a lot you can do about it now, but a decent lawyer could get you off with just a fine and no criminal record that you have to report to future employment opportunities.

It's hard not to respond to this in a "don't use a rest stop" way but I think the issue is more about how do you deal with the police citation that's going to be coming in the mail. (I don't doubt it will.)

It will probably mention what the citation is for. I assume you're married and that's what you're concerned about? My best suggestion is...try to intercept it, I guess. It's unlikely you'll have to appear at a hearing, you'll probably have the option to pay a fine instead.

Honestly, it depends. If you (general "you," not you specifically) get caught with your pants down in an area where there have been lots of complaints from the public, you might find that the local prosecutor isn't that keen on dropping or reducing the charge.

Just be careful out there. Actually, it depends on the situation. And where it was in "public" cause if you did it in one of the "go to" parks for some public man-on-man action after dark in Copenhagen, then you would not get arrested. But if you did it like on Amalienborg castle during daytime, you would of course be arrested. As I said it all depends on the situation. Yes this is 2009, but remember that not everybody is online and/or free to go to adult sites to cruise for hook-ups. I also think that some of the police patrols get a bit carried away. Granted, NOBODY should be having sex where families and people not looking for sex may be. Likewise, people shouldn't be leaving signs of sexual activity around (toilet paper, used condoms and wrappers, underwear, etc. However, that isn't always the case. Sometimes because a place has a reputation for "gay" sex, people are out to crack down on it because the kind of sex it is -- not just because it is happening outside. Also keep in mind that sometimes it is homophobes messing with the gays that use a park that cause the police to have to start patroling the place.

You can also ask yourself why some people would go to places like a park?
1) You may not want to bring someone home as you don't know anything about them. Would they stalk you or tell your neighbors about you? Would they steal something in your home? If you are married, would your wife and/or kids find out about it?

2) You may not be into bars with all the drinking, smoking, etc. I seldom ever went to bars, and the only time I enjoyed myself was when they gave dance lessons. Most of the time, I would find myself saying: "Why am I here!"

3) You many not want to do adult bookstores because everybody knows why someone is there. At a park, unless they see you doing it, they cannot label you as being their for sex.

4) You may not have a hotel available, or perhaps you neither have the money for a hotel room for an hour, may not want the sex to involve money, or you may not be able to use a credit card without someone finding out and questioning the expense.

I don't go looking for sex anymore, because I'm committed to my guy. However, I cannot condemn them because when I was single, I don't know what I would have done without the parks. Bars and bookstores were so impersonal. While it was nice to chat online (some of those old days were online bulletin boards), there is still something distant about online media too. Where as at the parks, not only might you find sex, but you would get to know some of the regulars and establish friendships. Especially in less urban settings parks and restrooms are about the only way you ever know that you aren't alone. In the ideal world you would meet people just like straight people.
