I've been reading a lot lately about the possibility of decriminalizing prostitution. Thinking about how things would work in case this happens has captured my imagination. I don't think I could write any compelling stories with this theme but I'm sure there are people on here that could take these ideas and run with them! The advent of social media and cell phone apps could really put a new spin on the "oldest profession".
My first idea rips off and merges Uber and Tinder.
Now available on the App store TINDUBBER.
"Drivers" can advertise their offerings, pricing and restrictions in the app.
"Riders" can specify their desires and what they are willing to pay.
Drivers and Riders can use the app to rate each other and post reviews of their experiences.
Riders and drivers can find each other using the Tinder model. Swipe right for yes and left for no (or is it the other way around?).
Safety is a main concern for both sides of this type of transaction. Personal safety (don't want a date with a serial killer or a pickpocket) as well as STD prevention (testing status and contact tracing) could be built-in to the app. With decriminalization comes the option of getting the police involved with assault, fraud and theft problems they could never report before because of the nature of the transaction. Ride location options would be greatly expanded with decriminalization.
Reviews could be a centerpiece of the app for quality purposes as well. Riders could critique drivers in a private review for the drivers eyes only and vice versa. Constructive criticism would be helpful to increase both of their reputations. Drivers and riders could more publicly report potential safety issues or just "bad vibes". Reviews of extra good tippers and drivers that go the extra mile could optionally be made part of their Tindubber profiles increasing potential business and enabling drivers to increase prices and rider selectivity and enable riders to potentially get better pricing and attract better drivers if they have a good reputation.
Just like the Uber model, drivers would have the flexibility of driving whenever they want or need to. The most popular drivers could probably make enough money to be very selective about when and how much they work. Imagine, soccer mom's all over the country supplementing their incomes as private contractors! With a less-risky business model, the appeal from all walks of life will grow over time.
Another idea would follow the spa model pretty closely. Clean, secure and quiet storefronts in malls and other brick and mortar buildings out in the open but discreet so they are not "in your face". Some of them might even choose to be "full service" offering both sexual and non-sexual spa services instead of being exclusively one or the other. Happy endings could be a specialty just like those weird "hot stone" treatments. With less risk, I think more therapists will just see it as another add on to make more money and not as big a deal or as stigmatized as it is now. Of course, as always CONSENT is key to it all. Insisting on treatments that are not on the menu for a particular spa or a particular therapist could and should have consequences.
Another idea I had is less about the transaction and more about the location. Rooms that can be rented on a short-term basis for rides or even free-rides (for non-transactional interludes between regular couples) might be a lucrative business model. Instead of just a room with a bed and a bathroom, themed rooms could be dungeons, airplane cockpits, the principal's office, classrooms, locker rooms, the possibilities are endless! No need to rent the room by the night, rent it by the hour! If you really like the facility, perhaps a subscription model would work! Of course, the rooms will still have to be thoroughly cleaned between each guest! You make the walls out of television monitors (don't forget the sound effects) and people could have sex in any location they could ever want without getting arrested!
That's it for now. If you decide to write a story on any of these themes, let me know and I'll be sure to read it!
Thanks,
Eliassteve
