The motherfucker pardoned 19 people and commuted the sentences of one other. NONE of them were Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compien! That's even after HIS fucking Justice Department admitted that they fucked up the case!

Actually, I agree with the marijuana pardons. If I could, I would pardon everyone jailed for marijuana possession or distribution.

What are the criteria for a pardon?

A pardon is not an exhoneration, afaik. It doesn't change the verdict, just the punishment. So a person pardoned will still be considered guilty, but let out of the slammer. People up for pardons or clemencies would then mainly be people who were dealt a too harsh punishment considering the crime they were convicted of or who have mitigating circimstances to be let out.

In the case of Peltier, isn't the debate rather whether he's guilty or not? IF he is indeed what people accuse him of, life behind bars seems reasonable. So a pardon per se would not apply. A fair re-trial and an aquittal, would.

Bush has released about half the number pardoned by either Clinton or Reagan. That fact of course doesn't detract from his deserved reputation as the personification of Americas lower alimentary exit.

Is he restricted to only pardoning federal offences because if he could, the pardoning of a large number of minor (non federal) offences would have considerable merit and it would save taxpayers a lot of money?

That seems rather refreshing, after reading how Bill Clinton sold so many pardons to wealthy malefactors who made donations to his pet projects and the Dem Party.

From what I have heard, those two Border Patrol Agents should have never been arrested. For some reason, the Justice Dept granted some kind of amnesty to a drug smuggler so he would come and testify against them that they shot him while he was breaking the law. If there is more to the case than I know about, maybe somebody could enlughten me.
