I dig her dresss actually, and her hair is almost hippie nature girl.

I like the idea of the cake, but I don't think it worked. If you're going to do whimsical lopsidedness, I think the rest should be a bit more whimsical too. Otherwise we're all left wondering, is that cake going to fall over or what?

I love the sister's dress! Laura looks very first lady appropriate. I wonder if GW went to bed early.

Love that first picture...and could you not have asked for a better sky?

Is the sister's arm broken? That looks like such an unnatural pose

but overall I liked the pictures.. it looked like a "normal" wedding

It looks like Laura just got goosed in that last picture. Kinda makes you wonder were Pres. Bush's hand is.

Sorry, when I saw the title I thought you were talking about a wedding Australian style.
She looks lovely (shame about the father of the bride though).

LOL, I thought the same. SO is this a case of 'great minds think alike' or 'fools seldom differ'?:D: As for father of the bride, 'nuff said....I swear the groom must be a brave man to have him for a father in law...love really must be able to conquer all.:D

I could be wrong, but I think the cake is tilting, because they are in the process of cutting it. He's holding the knife and she's holding him. I think it could actually have gone down, if she pulled his arm too far one way.

I heard that the day before the wedding, a tornado came through and toppled many of the things over...tent, etc. But, they got everything back in order, for the next night's wedding.

LOL, me too. I didn't figure out what you were talking about until the last picture.

I'd like to have a piece of that.

The cake I mean.

Not that I'd kick Jenna out of bed.

The groom comes from an influential Virginia Republican family, and is an active Republican himself. He once served as an aide to Karl Rove (the evil genius behind Bush's election victories, among other things).

Bride and groom met while both were working on the 2004 Bush campaign for reelection. I'm sure he's thrilled.

I think she looks a bunch like her mom :rose:
I think so, too.

I found it interesting that the wedding was officiated by Rev. Caldwell, a guy who openly endorsed Obama in January. Caldwell cited Obama's "character, confidence and courage," and noted that he "would do a wonderful job to bring people together to pursue a common vision we all have." Fascinating stuff, coming from a guy who has been Bush's spiritual advisor for many years.

Caldwell gave the benediction at both Bush Inaugurals as well.

He apparently asked Bush permission and Bush replied, welcome to the family, and then slapped his back (the customary W greeting).

I dunno. Looks like fondant. The cake, I mean.

Really? Interesting.

Ohhhh, okay. I can see that.

Ha ha!

Yeah, the pose is weird.

I swear his social skills never progressed beyond frat house. Did you see him with the pope? "Awesome speech" and the slap on the back. Incredible, but true!

Speaking of frats - I think Barbara's dress looks like a makeshift greek attempt for classic Animal House.

Heh. I forgot about the comment to the Pope! I saw it on the Daily Show. Cringeworthy!

I remember reading a New Yorker article about Bush and his personal style, this was shortly after he got elected. Basically, yes, frat boy. In fact, I dated a guy from Austin, and I remember during the race against Gore, my ex told me Bush reminded him of every good ol' boy from Texas he grew up with.

As for Barbara's dress...well, it's similar to the necklines that are popular right now, which I don't find particularly attractive. But I was expecting more traditional wedding get ups, and it's fun to see that they both went the sleek route rather than ze poufy one.

On an unrelated note, I hope I'm not offending anyone, but I found the giant cross that Bush apparently had commissioned to be a really strange choice to have the couple do their vows in front of. I don't know - it's this giant hulking cross, very imposing. Is that a good choice as the symbol and backdrop of your wedding ceremony?

Everything is very pretty, although the cake looked iffy, they could do better and Laura ....just....scares....me.

I have to say that I would not get married in front of a huge giant cross, but then I don't necessarily think that a cross is a good symbol, anyway. Quite frankly the cross was a torture device and it was used to torture Jesus to death. The fact that so many people have it everywhere is kinda creepy. I prefer the dove or the fish as symbols of Christianity - although the sheep is probably more accurate.

I think she looks flat out weird in those pictures.

Right! Why would you want to get married in front of a crucifix!!?? I don't get it.

From all the pictures I've seen, I think it looked like a pretty wedding and she made a pretty bride. Really loved her dress.

Also, I love wedding cake. It's one of my favorite things to eat!!!

She's like the quintesssential stereotype of a Texan wife. I find her fascinating!

I've always been a bit obsessed with the southern woman's mystique. I feel like the complete opposite, and I can't imagine being that savvy with charm.
