Bush defends domestic eavesdropping.

Tsk tsk tsk, Vermillion, Bush is looking out for you and yours.
Can we agree to disagree? Pretty please?

We can have our differences of opinion and still debate. ;)

I'm waiting for the day when Bush proposes he stay president beyond his 2 terms because we are still at war with terror. just wait... it'll come.

project echelon
Eschelon is the internation NSA spying programme checking all phonecalls and emails. Its only proper Americans should be subject to the same invasions of privacy they impose on every other country.

New Zealand has a listening station in the US network that gives not only access to intelligence for security purposes but the ideal medium for organised industrial espionage.

What do you expect him to say? "Well, America I broke the law. Congress needs to start impeachment proceedings right away."

For Bush, 9/11 justifies eavesdropping.
Meekail, can I say it one more time. 9/11 didn't justify eavesdropping. It's been going on for a long time.

Bush said whoever leaked the secret program to the press has compromised his administration's efforts to avert another terrorist attack on U.S. soil. "My personal opinion is it was a shameful act for someone to disclose this very important program in a time of war," Bush said. "The fact that we're discussing this program is helping the enemy."

You know Meekail, everyone knows about the CIA, perhaps some know that they had their balls cut off by Frank Church and Robert Torricelli.
The NSA is a different story. In my opinion, the leaking of this story by the NYT is close to sedition. Believe me...we need the NSA........they won't erode your civil liberties........You'll be free to stay on line in the Lit forum, they won't hold it against you.

Yes, be happy to live with the NSA protecting your interests, directly avoiding oversight by your elected officials charged with that duty.

It's just one small step from a "benevolent"(??) dictatorship like Hitler or Mussolini who knew the right sort of people to get rid of...... anyone that didnt agree with their nutball ideas.

The American system has designed in checks and balances to avoid such corruptions as Bush has done to the system.

Roll on the Inquiry and lets see how his actions are treated under critical examination.

So tell me this: They had access to a secret court so they could get secret subpoenas to tap anyone they could prove they needed to, without compromising their investigation or personnel, yet the president chose to work outside those established and legal parameters, parameters put in place to protect U.S. citizens. Why?

That's not eroding the freedoms and constitutional protections we hold dear?

Yep, uhhu.

I worry that for every covert procedure that's made public, there are three others we never hear about.

There are things that shouldn't be for public dissemination.
