Is looking kind of bleak.
I hope everyone on the Playa is doing ok. Apparently the National guard is there.
I’m hoping my friends didn’t make it in before they shut down the gates because everyone there is stuck and flooded.

Update for those of us that have quasi pulled the plug? The rain from last weeks hurricane (the remnants) or just rain going through?

Hope all are safe but the NNG being called in? That bad?

It’s the remnants. All traffic including bikes has been stopped. That is official.
Reported by burners:
Drinking water contaminated. Port a potties not being emptied. Things are very muddy and wet. Most tents have about an inch of water in them. People are sheltering in place. It’s 50 degrees there at night, the risk of hyperthermia is pretty high if everything is wet.
There are some videos on TikTok.

Rich people suffering. :)

Not all are rich, I’d say most aren’t.
The people I know who go or have gone there who are far from rich, most are artists though, some had grants.

I am watching the webcam live stream of the man and the temple and people are moving about, mainly by foot.

That sounds to me like a disease outbreak waiting to happen.

Hopefully not. They are supposed to be pretty much prepared to live off grid, so I’m hoping they all have their little filtered straws for drinking water. They have a fresh one. It’ll usually go through 400 gallons. I’ve been watching the live stream Cam of the man and the temple and people are walking around. it looks like some spots are drying but it’s very spotty. Hopefully it won’t really take four days to dry out. And they don’t get any more storms.

Sounds like every other year at Glasto.
Nothing of this has anything to do with global warming of course
So if they're not letting people go in or out, what's the plan?

There's not much left of the hippie movement, but there will be another one later. Somewhere else could be the next Burning Man, or several smaller locations for shorter travel by slower means.

They are going to somehow bring tankers in I presume with water.
They are emptying the portapotties.
Lots of stuck vehicles sunk in the mud.
Eventually the playa will dry out and everyone can leave.
Burning man has published a 2023 what playa survival guide for those who still have the ability to read it online.
People are abandoning campsites, vehicles, etc and walking to the gate, maybe 6 miles as of this morning.
Clean up is going to be a huge issue.
I suspect people are having skin issues from the mud, it’s pretty nasty extremely alkaline its lije getting a cement chemical burn, this probably why they are walking 6 miles out. It can seep through your skin and damage muscles even bones. This is the most terrifying part for me.

The ground is toxic. Planning a huge event there with camping on the ground could be a mass Darwin Awards situation.

In the german news, they said this morning, one man died @ the burning man festival. 😞

A similar situation could happen with Speed Week at the Bonneville Salt Flats. It was cancelled last year due to rain.

My cousin was there, but she's ok. She said that she'll never go back. It was her 4th time going.
