Last year, no one used Trump's name at Burning Man. But there was plenty of jokes associated with Trump.

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A lawyer for Burning Man organizers sent a letter to the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs calling for an end to what he called the unconstitutional tactic of stepped-up traffic stops of vehicles bound for the annual counter-culture festival in the Nevada desert, the Reno Gazette Journal reported Friday.

Special counsel Adam Belsky also demanded federal officials preserve all records related to the stops and searches on a state highway through Pyramid Lake Paiute tribal land.

Federal authorities insist they are not targeting Burning Man travelers. Nedra Darling, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Bureau of Indian Affairs, said the stops are part of an effort to crack down on a nationwide opioid epidemic on tribal lands.

"It's a serious problem that Indian Country has, that the country has. This is an opportunity to help the tribe," Darling told the Gazette Journal

2018 Burning Man

The event is being held for the first time since two notable deaths, including that of founder Larry Harvey, who passed away this summer following a stroke.

Participants will also be mourning the death of man who during the final days of last year’s event shockingly ran into a massive fire in view of thousands of participants.

The event officially runs Aug. 26-Sept. 3 and culminates in two days of massive fires, first the raucous burning of a 100-foot-tall wooden effigy amid a blazing fireworks display, and then the solemn burn of a wooden “temple” stuffed with notes and letters to loved ones.

But before it has even officially started, this year’s festival is already facing controversy: Federal police are targeting participants heading from Reno north into the desert, pulling over drivers for minor traffic infractions and searching for drugs.

The Burning Man organization last year paid approximately $4.5 million to the BLM for its costs, contracted work and applicable fees. About $1.2 million went toward law enforcement resources, Graham said.

Between meals, IT networks, trailers, fuel, offices, a medical tent for law enforcement and K9 units, and a number of other services, Burning Man organizers estimated that they already pay for more than $250,000 in additional resources used by the sheriff's office and BLM officials each year.

Law enforcement officers spend countless hours on "optional activities" at the event, like stopping vehicles for broken taillights or other minor infractions, Graham said. "BLM and Pershing County law enforcement officers spent a significant majority of their responses on the playa engaged in public contacts like giving directions to the bathrooms and on traffic stops... in an event with a 5 mph speed limit and next to no vehicle accidents," said Graham.

SALT LAKE CITY — A federal agent who had been scrutinized for his handling of rare evidence as well as behavior at the counterculture Burning Man festival is no longer an employee of the Bureau of Land Management, authorities said Friday.

Daniel Love, who played a command role in federal agents' 2014 standoff with Nevada rancher and states' rights figure Cliven Bundy, no longer works for the agency, spokeswoman Megan Crandall told the Associated Press.

Burning Man 2018 right around the corner on August 26, the Facebook event page for this year is conspicuously missing from Facebook. There also doesn’t seem to have been an event page created last year, either.

Did the trolls troll so hard that the Burning Man employees finally threw up their hands and gave the fuck up? Burning Man organizers did not respond to a query about why they’ve not created event pages for the last two years.

Will it be painted orange and sport a funny yellow toupee'?

Maryland bridge that famously read 'Surrender Dorothy' altered to say 'Surrender Donald

A bridge in Maryland has been altered to tell President Trump to “surrender.”

Mad Dog PAC, a political action committee based in Washington, D.C., reportedly put up letters reading “Surrender Donald” on a historic bridge on Friday morning, Washingtonian reported.

The railroad bridge that runs across the Capital Beltway had been famously adorned with graffiti decades ago spelling out the words "Surrender Dorothy" because the view of the Mormon temple rising behind the railroad bridge looks like the city of Oz from the famous film "The Wizard of Oz."

Taylor, who formerly worked on campaigns for President Clinton, said he was able to cover the costs for the stunt with the help of sales from his PAC’s Trump “traitor” balloons, which depict the president as an orange, inflatable baby.

We now know who put up that "Surrender Donald" sign. [Washingtonian]

This new version is apparently the work of Taylor and his Mad Dog PAC. Taylor tells Washingtonian that the sign, made of easily removable letters that minimize property damage, was installed between 4 and 5 am on Friday morning. A small group of PAC volunteers gathered to place each letter on the famous railroad bridge. Taylor says he wasn’t actually there when the letters were put up, but he came up with the idea and spearheaded the stunt.
