POLL IS CLOSED

As the poll closed this was the ongoing tally. Note that the AH is in 6th posItion, but is also listed in 22nd position. The votes for both listings will now be combined to get a final result. If there is any number of votes associated with the 22nd place finish, and they are added to the votes for the 6th place finish, Literotica's AH may still win.

I voted, G, but apparently the vote isn't counted until you reply to an email from them, and mine must have been spam-filtered. Never recieved it.

I wouldn't have thought the confirmation email would be sent as bulk mail, but you never know I guess. I don't think my spam filter marked it as spam. Maybe you should do it again, maybe using a different email addy.

It could result in our being flooded by a bunch of romance writers with their torn bodices, candelabras, and dark, brooding, Lords Ravencrofts.

Dr. Mabeuse, Lord Ravensomething isn't always brooding. Sometimes he's sardonic.

G C, before I open another e-mail account in hopes that it won't filter spam so effectively, a couple of questions:

Isn't it enough that I vote in the general elections, risking disappointment and worse?

If AH wins, how will the $200,000 prize money be divided?

Were there seamstresses in the Victorian era who specialized in salvaging ripped bodices?

If rip-stop nylon had been available, presumably there would never have been any bodice-ripper novels. Would the romance genre have come into existence at all?

I didn't mean to suggest you overload yourself with email accounts. I thought you probably had more than one already. Most people do I think. If you are panning to do that, I don't think Literotica's free email has much filtering in place. But I really don't know if there is much to be gained. The thrill I got out of it was that the AH was leading ahead of some starchier groups. The thought that a bunch of smutmeisters might top the poll over all the academic wags, literary posers and God botherers was fixing a perverse grin on my chops, that's all. (This is why some call me Garfield. I do not have a good poker face, though it may improve after another week of beard growth.)

Voting is way overrated, Sher, you know that. I can understand a Floridian getting glazed eyes when asked to cast a ballot for anything, but at least in this case Jeb isn't even aware of the election and none of his family are in the running.

I had tried not to mention the $200,000, Sher, because I didn't want to diminish the altruistic motives of our members, but now you've let the cat out of tha bag: I was thinking half the money could be used to create a Literotica Sex Toy Research Foundation. The other half a rather thought should be used to build a shrine for our patron saint.

Where ripped bodices are concerned, see the next post.:rose:

Are you certain?

Re: Literotica e-mail. I signed up for it back in June when I began reading the dirty stories, and I have never received a message there. Including test ones that I sent to myself from another account.

Okay, I wasn't going to do this, but I'm very weak willed, a bit like Dumbya just after his selection, trying to restrain himself until he could stand it no longer and just had to outlaw vital medical research and family planning. The following is offered in that kind of spirit. These are the words of the lady whose quote currently appears on my Literotica signature, Lynne Connolly. I can't convince her to check in here in person, so I'll just cross post her and send her link:

It's the baggage many romance novels drag behind them. There's the old
bodice rippers, with the clinch covers half naked men and scantily clad
women. Many of these covers were swathing a book which had far more
literary merit than that, books that could have held their own in the
literary market. Of course, since the market is such a large one, there
were the inevitable inside as well. But they were all given the same kind
of covers.
Harlequin. What man is going to be seen on the underground reading a
Harlequin or Mills and Boon? There are authors of real quality there, but
the branding is so successful one of those can be spotted across a train
aisle. (Harlequin are re-branding and introducing some new lines. It might
be a help).
It's almost traditional to traduce and sneer at romance novels. The authors
now expect it; it comes with the territory. It's bone deep, with comedians
poking fun at them and their readers, and the literary publications
ignoring them as a matter of course.
Yet romance novels sell over 50% of all paperback fiction novels sold in
the USA today. It's a huge market. Male readers are rare, and loath to come
forward, but romance novels are popular partly because they describe an
experience we all have; the relationship between a man and a woman. Not
just love, but coping. Forming a partnership.
The hot sex you find in most of them comes as a big surprise to many people
who have either never picked one up or picked their last one up ten years
ago or more. They might have landed on a bad one, and decided 'they were
all like that' (that is a really common attitude). They're not. They're as
diverse as you can imagine. The rules are; one man, one woman and a happy
ever after. You put in the rest, make it as funny, as tragic, as hot, as
sweet as you want to. Many romance novels are told from the male pov, some
are fantasy males, some aren't. The last head of the RWA was a man, who
also writes romance novels.
I sincerely admire the men on some of the romance lists I'm a member of.
They are the brave ones, and it's great to have a male pov.
Try one, you might like it.

You're doing better than I am. I tried to sign up for it long ago and it wouldn't let me. It told me I was denied and gave no reasoning. It took months of therapy to come to terms with rejection from a free e-mail services at a porn site. ;)

Now don't go all serious on me. I'm sure there's just as much literary merit in romance novels as there is in porn;)

Are they combining the AH votes? Last time I looked, AH was listed three different ways and held three places in the poll.

Yes, I checked that out. The rules say they combine the extra ones at ballot counting time. BTW, if you're still having problems with email addies, I have a virtual server and can give you a POP3 address if you wish.
