IT's funny...you ALWAYS see on TV about the evils and craziness of Chat rooms and IM's but I have yet to see a story about the communties within a chat room or bullitin board.

I see here the usual goofiness and sexual antics but we all know about the strong support system and friendships that lie within here...and not only here but many chat rooms with regulars. To many people it's their lives or at least an important part of them...a place to escape, play or just be part of something.

I'll admit I havent watch Oprah or the View lately and maybe they have spoken of such...but dont you think places like this are important?

Is it odd that it is never discussed in RL? should it be?

I'm on a couple of boards that have been in the news. They are "hot deals" type boards. A bunch of cheap asses who get together and discuss where to buy things on sale lol

You know, it IS odd...I never see it discussed anywhere at all. At first, I thought maybe they were all being lumped into the same category, but they are not in the least similiar. Its hard to believe bulletin boards aren't discovered yet, they are so prevalent on the net. I have performed many a search for boards and there are countless boards out there.

I really can't answer...unless its to say that maybe there just aren't as much problems reported with boards as there are with private/semi private chats.

Yes, boards are very important, lit is a perfect example. If you doubt that, spend a little time just lurking, reading and processing what happens here in just a weeks time...wow. I have witnessed so much discovery and awakening and out and out "blooming" here, (I am a perfect example of this.) theres no denying the power, the appeal and all of the many compelling aspects of an online community. There are some of you that, until I've talked with you, my day just isn't right, it isn't complete. I'm sure that's the case for many of us. :)

Sorry, "Brick House" by the Commodores is playing, and I just gotta dance!:D

It's important to me, but I have a feeling that the monitor keeps people off the TV & vice-versa.

Watching the tv for news about the internet sounds about as exciting as watching a television show about somebody else fishing, bowling, or golfing instead of doing it yourself. Besides, Oprah & The View could lose audience to Bulletin Board communities if they turned their veiwers on to them.

And there's the whole "good news" thing. There's really no story to "hey, these people are just like us, but with keyboards." Now if someone's stalking a 13 year old who's pretending to be 19, then there are possibly screeching sirens and flashing lights for that big wow finish.

We're probably better off being left alone.

And "hi" P1; made it home safely I see. Same here.

A project I was involved in while I was away from Lit was approached by producers of "The Ananda Lewis Show" to make an appearance based on information they had seen on our BB. And although the free publicity could have been an excellent boost to readership, we just didn't trust the talk show format enough nor could we receive sufficient assurances on how our involvement with the Internet would be represented. In the end we declined the invitation based on those reasons.

I like what I'm reading here ('specially from Intruiged as always)...and don't mistake my approach that I want Lit to be on TV...I just meant BB communities in general.

God help us if we got national attention and this place blew all to hell...I like it just the way it is...HSJ an all :)

I cringe to think of us on TV...I much prefer people come across this site on their own...I think things happen for a reason. :)

Thanks, JB.:rose:

Of course when people think of bulletin boards, they see it as a place to put an ad to seel their lawnmower, not the stuff that really goes on

Yes, well...depending on the type board. I think most aren't even aware of all the kinds of boards in existance. I know I am STILL stunned by the topics and types, and I've been at this for 2 years.

Curses! Why is it nobody tells me these things?
So it's not just decks, driveways & bathtub tile that need to be sealed? I better place an ad to have mine done ...uh...Do you seal them for winter, or do you have them done in the spring to keep the grass out?;)
