building a dungeon on a budget

I want to build a realistic dungeon backdrop for photography but I only want to spend $500. How can I achieve an authentic look?
Or are there places I can go to that are more ideal?

not knowing much about the whole "dungeon-bdsm" type lifestyle (sorry for offending anyone if i did)...

Isn't a "Budget Dungeon" a kind of oxymoron?

mmmmmmm, sounds very interesting! What? No local castle you can use? lol Maybe visit your local theater? They might have some props you could borrow/buy? Or just get a giant sheet of plywood and paint stone blocks on it?

Crazybbwgirl has some excellent ideas.
But if her ideas don't work out (although I bet they will):
Find a dark rundown type of place with stone walls in the building (like in the cellar). Do the photographs in black and white. Add some chains and such that you might already have.

I get the impression you're talking more about a Set than a "backdrop."

A realistic "backdrop" would only require a Tromp L'oeil (sp) painting or photograph on a wall or pull-down screen.

For a Photography Set, you'll need props like restraint devices or whips and chains hanging from the walls that can actually be attached to the models.

Just how permanent does this backdrop need to be? Is it going to be a permanent section of the studio or something to be moved into place for a photo-shoot and then removed?

Have you considerd a rear-projection screen that would be useful for more than just the Dungeon set?

One possibility that might be useful for the stone wall of your dungeon -- check wallpaper suppliers for a stonework pattern of wallpaper.

yeah, I thought about that. It would only be a temporary, easy to move around thing. Hmmm, wish I had some helpers here.
I can pay you in beer and porn :D

Sounds like you need to find or design a collapsible frame to stretch a painted fabric background on.

Perhaps a second hand awning for an RV or Patio could be adapted?

A large painter's tarp or something along those lines, with the riveted holes that can be used to hang it where ever you chose. You can also paint it to look like whatever you chose.

there is pvc pipe that can be painted or covered with sticky shelf paper to look like wood for prop crosses.

check out the local home depot or lowe's building supply. you should be able to get plenty ideas there.

Safety First

If you are restraining people even for the briefest of time you need to address their safety in said devices whether for play or photographing.....My suggestion is go to well stocked home improvement center an look for insulation boards, also called blueboard due to it's color.....It' sold in 4x8 sheets like plywood and can be laminated together to form thicker stock should you need it.....Also it paints up pretty well and cuts easily with hand and power tools....

wow, thanks for the input everyone. I will look into supplies at Home Depot and Lowes. Hopefully, I can get models to pose since that is a bigger problem than creating a fake dungeon.
Any volunteers? *male or female, doesnt matter.
