can't believe that anyone would think that its all that important to be part of "the community" anyway
to me the gay community is just a tool ... you can use it for support ... for meeting other gay people ... but its nothing more than that ... i can't see how anyone can see it as a holy grail that leads to making their life mean something

this is way too much....
i cannot believe that people would do such things. i knew that people intentionally infected others, but i didn't know that people actively sought the disease....

The main focus of the show was about a young gay man who was one of the people they followed in the documentary "The Gift".
In the documentary, he was hell bent on finding someone to give him the gift.
Now that he has it, he regrets it (ya think?) and the show was about exploring why he felt he had to bug chase in the first place.
A good many of his issues were based on the fact that he felt alone as a gay man, that he had nobody to talk to or who knew what he was going through on a day to day basis and that chasing the bug made him feel like he was part of a special club where he was popular and well liked. (Because he was so promiscuous).
It went much deeper than that, but I can't put it into words. I'll see if I can find a transcript or something.
