Bruc McCandless, subject of iconic space photo, dead at 80

Anyone who had even the vaguest curiosity about the space shuttle missions will remember this picture:

It is a picture of an astronaut in a Manned Maneuvering Unit taken against the curved edge of the Earth. That astronaut, Bruce McCandless, has passed away at age 80.

Not only was Bruce involved with design and testing of the MMU, he was the capsule communicator when Neil Armstrong took his historic first step on the moon in July of 1969.

In all, Bruce spent 13 days and 31 minutes in space, but the picture taken of him will live forever.
