Introducing Mike
It had been almost five years since Mike had seen his older sister, Miranda. That was shortly after they buried their parents who had been killed in a terrible auto wreck. The tragedy of their deaths had been too painful. Mike had dropped out of college and ran away, into the army. The army made a man of Mike. Now he is 25 years old, 6'3", 235 lbs, with dark hair, dark eyes, and a scruff of a beard. After three years of military service, and two years working for a private overseas security firm, he was heading home. He had accepted the loss of his parents. And he was ready to move on with his life. Mike had military and security training, a bank account full of money, and a desire to build a real life for himself.
And he had a desire to reconnect with the only family he had; his sister Miranda.
Over the years Mike had stayed loosely in touch with Miranda, mostly by email. He felt bad that he ran away and wasn't there for her. But it appeared that she was doing okay, actually very well on her own. And when he told her that he was ready to come home, she insisted that he come stay with her, at least until he found a job and his own place to live.
And that is how he came to be standing outside her door, late on a Friday afternoon. He didn't really know what to expect.
He set down his suitcase, and knocked on her door.
