Broken

Basic premis - she is a woman in her thirties, desparately looking for someone to excite her passions. He is a man slightly older than her, married but unfulfilled. They are both strong willed and both know what they want. They have no names - they could be anyone - and the story tells of how they met and how they explored each other until they were broken.

She sat starting at the screen for what seemed like hours. People came and went, the clock slowly moved through the minutes and still she sat. She wasn't aware of her thoughts until she realised that she'd been thinking about him again. About the night that he'd first held her hand, first pressed his lips against hers and made her shiver with anticipation.

It had a been a long time coming. So many times she'd stolen a glance at him only to find he'd been smiling at her all along. So often she'd smiled back and waited for him to start a conversation only to watch him get up and walk away. When he leaned over to show her something she thought he must be able to smell the desire within her but he always laughed at her and went back to what he was doing. Then finally, one cold March a few years ago, she'd found an excuse to be in the right place at the right time.

The evening had flown so quickly, she hadn't realised the pub was closing but when he'd suggested they moved on to some little late night bar he knew she'd jumped at the chance to spend a little more time with him. As they walked outside the chill air bit into her hands and face but she didn't care. At last she was on her own with him and when he held her later, under the frosty stars, she knew she would do anything for this man.

The shrill ringing of the telephone brought her out of her daydream with a jolt. Before she could pick up the receiver someone else had answered so she looked around for something to distract her. Almost as she decided to go to lunch the door opened. She held her breath, willing it to be him, and was rewarded with that familiar crooked smile and those naughty blue eyes.

"Alright?" he said with a wink

He knew she wasn't 'alright', but he asked the question anyway. He could see it written all over her face Her distraction, her lack of interest in anything that went on around her and he smiled. He knew of course what had come between her and the reality of her everyday existance. It was him... or rather it was them. Because he felt it too that fatal attraction, that path of no return. There was no way of denying it, no way to avoid it and every desire to follow it.

He smiled again as she looked up at him not knowing what to say at first, caught up in her fantasy, a fantasy that became a reality as soon as she looked in his eyes. When he looked back he made his fantasy real also. He had reached the point of no return.

She didn't answer, it was a rhetorical question he reasoned, so he answered for her "Lunch" He said abruptly "Lunch and some fresh air.. She rose from her seat and followed him at a distance so that now one would notice they were heading in the same direction. Once outside and out of sight he took her hand. The first contact, intense, erotic only made them grip each other tighter, sharing the glow that first spark had ignited.

As soon as he'd said "Lunch" she knew what would happen. She could sense his intentions as if she'd thought them herself which, if she were honest, she had. She'd followed him blindly, not knowing where she was going only that she was bound to him in a way she couldn't describe. Conscious of prying eyes she'd taken care to stay far enough behind that no one would know they were together but the moment they stepped behind the trees she was in his arms.

He held her face in his hands and looked into her eyes for what seemed like a million years. Then, slowly, his mouth crept nearer, softly brushing his lips against hers. At that moment she would have done anything, anything at all, just to have stayed with him. As his tongue pried her mouth open, exploring her as she tasted him, her bones melted and her breath caught in her throat.

It had always been this way. She was addicted to him, even though she knew it wasn't healthy for her. She'd tried so hard at the start not to want him, not to love him but it was hopeless. Even now after all these years she still got that silly, butterfly feeling in her stomach whenever he was near her.

As they stood under the trees, just being close, she though back to the time when loving him wasn't an issue. To the time when it was only about flesh and heat and passion....

Him

As he held her, as he felt her body melt into his, as the fire that that kiss had started deep inside of him smoldered waiting to be kindled by a more intimate contact, his mind made a quick trip backwards. Back to that first kiss, a kiss every bit as passionate every bit as sensuous every bit as compelling as the one they had just shared.

How many years ago he couldn’t remember, but he remembered where and he remembered it just as vividly as if it had happened yesterday.

Rileys, a small bar a block from the office. Happy hour, attitude adjustment time,a drink after work.
Both of them wound up there occasionally. Her for one martini him for a couple of quick beers, not every night just once in a while and it seemed if she was there he was too. He noticed her, the new girl at the office. At first they did little more than exchange pleasantries but he sensed something happening between them. “Keep your distance.” he warned himself. “You’re a married man.”

Then one night they stayed. Not to drink or socialize but to wait. Him with a cup of coffee, her with a soft drink waiting for the after-work crowd to dwindle down and then when the bar was empty, when they were alone, he took her hand and led her to the little dance floor, put a quarter in the jukebox and played Barry White. Halfway through the dance he kissed her and she kissed him back, a hungry, fervent kiss, a kiss that seemed to last forever but was over all too quickly. What it left behind was the fire it had started. The fire that they both knew needed to be quenched.

The bartender had watched the back door close and grinned. "Ain’t love grand." he said under his breath. “Love ...or something... damned near like it.
-------------------------------------------------
He felt her stir in his arms, and look up a question in her eyes.

I was just thinking..He said slowly.” “About our first kiss.... The one at Rileys, remember?”

She smiled, of course I do, and I remember that horrid hotel,... not very romantic was it?

No...it wasn’t.... but it was different then.” I just needed.......

“ I know..., so did I.” she said putting her finger to his lips. “Different but... still the same.”

He felt her shiver and settle back into the comfort of his arms allowing her a time for her own thoughts.

His words had stirred up memories she'd tried to block; that first time in the little hotel near the bar, the feeling that she had no control over events, the way she'd so desparately tried not to give in to her desire.

He'd taken her there that first night without asking whether she wanted to, correctly assuming that she wanted him as much as he did her. She recalled the faint aroma of stale smoke in the reception lobby as he'd checked them into the small, plainly furnished hotel.

The room, when they walked in was tiny; a double bed, a cupboard and a shower room just to the side. The faded pink lampshades finely coated with dust and the small stain on the carpet by the door. She'd thought it odd at the time that she noticed these insignificant things, with her blood hot and her mouth dry.

They sat awkwardly on the bed, neither of them sure what to say or do. She physically ached for his touch but still, in the middle of all the passion, she wasn't sure. He was married wasn't he and he'd never mentioned leaving his wife. She knew how easily she could love this man and knew just as surely that he would have the power to destroy her if she did. A million questions formed in her mind; Would he have his pleasure and be done with her? Would he want to see her again? Was this the start of something or just a one time only deal?

As these thoughts coursed through her mind, he reached for her hand. At his touch she turned to look at him and the moment she did, she realised she didn't care about any of that. She'd played by the rules for so long and it had only ever brought her heartache. Now it was time for her. Now it was time to forget the rules and live for the moment. She leaned towards him and their mouths locked, tongues entwined, hands clasping each other, fingers digging into each others flesh. She felt the heat between her legs, felt him press into her as they fell back and suddenly she wasn't thinking much at all.
