I write (very) short stories for my own interest and need one particular item looked at by fresh eyes.

I would say it ranks as only a ten to fifteen minute read, depending on your speed. I need no detailed editorial comments in the classical sense but rather a general critique of construction and "accessibility", i.e. whether my language is too involved and opaque. This latter consideration is something which always troubles me as a possibility. I tend not to use one word where four will do!

You're much more likely to get help if you specify the category of the story.

A valid point, possibly.

As with many, I don't write for specific "categories" and I hesitate over which this one might be assigned to. I can say that it has non-consensual and infidelity elements, neither of which would be the actual focus or driving force.

Not possibly--absolutely. Editors' interests tend to specialize here, and the categories at Literotica are very wide. Trans, Lesbian, Gay, Straight? It makes a difference when you're trying to isolate help. BDSM, Sci-Fi? It makes a difference.

Fine but, as stated, "editing" in the standard perception is not what I'm after. The only reason I'm posting on this board is that it seems the most relevant of all those available.

I write for myself... i.e. my own interest and enjoyment. As such, you might quite reasonably query why I concern myself with how things look to others. I can only answer that this is something which I can't shake off and I seem to need occasional reassurance and/or reasoned commentary.

My stories are all set in the familiar everyday of English life, rather than any "far fetchedness", which I would consider no challenge worth the name.

Um, OK. But as an editor, I must say I don't find you someone I would want to work with--more than a little shoulder chippy. I was trying to help you maximize your chances of finding someone in the context of Literotica arrangements. It's your need, not mine. Best of luck to you.

Shrugs.

If stating clearly what I need comes across as your fine piece of non-English, "shoulder-chippy", which would be rejected by any genuine editor, then so be it!

I have a couple of kind volunteers already.

I am a degreed book editor, vetted to the moderator of this board, and in the American system (which is the standard for the U.S.-based Literotica), "shoulder chippy" isn't hyphenated when it's placed where a put it in the sentence. It's not in an adjectival position. I'm happy you've found someone to help. Can only hope you can keep them with your displayed attitude. I wouldn't take your displayed attitude for ten minutes.

When you asked for help here, I voluntarily provided advice on how to get the best response here. You were the one wanting help. Your bad attitude started with the thread head "apply within." I should have known what kind of writer you were then and not bothered to try to help.

Double shrugs.

Someone around here has been collecting chips and depositing on shoulders for quite a while... and ce n'est pas moi...

"Degreed"..? God almighty...

Just giving this ancient thread a bump as something has occurred to me which I didn't check with the people who responded first time around... and now I've lost their messages through deletion. If anyone could kindly offer to give this a read, I'd be extremely grateful.

Tell me (here) what the content is in more detail (you mention non-consent and English everyday life, which is quite the juxtaposition) and the length, and I'll consider it.

My stories tend to focus on what might be going on behind the respectable facade put up by society. To that extent, I try to take quite normal situations and then produce angles which pervert them. I've used a whole variety of contexts, from choirs and social clubs to farming, home tuition, charitable giving.. you name it. This particular one relates to the idea of 'getting away from it all' and enjoying some fresh air.

As regards length, I can but assume you've actually read my OP...

4,400, give or take... depending on whether you count 'er' as a... *word*...
