this Spring.

Blair, so wrapped up with his fellow war-mongerer Bush, has forgotten his fine words at the Party Conference. His pledge to give all the help necessary to Africa to nip terrorism in the bud.

Tony, speaking grandly into the microphones said that Mugabe must be brought under control and that if a Rwanda-Burundi tragedy happened again, where 1,000,000 people died, the UK would have a moral duty to intervene.

So what happened Tony?

Mugabe's policy of witholding grain from large numbers of his own people because they supported the Movement for Democratic Change in the recent elections will result in starvation on a massive scale in a few months time.

And what does your Government say? Claire Short your major mouthpiece on the subject has stated time and time again that she is "very worried".

Well sorry Tony, "worried" isn't good enough...

So you'd be against the cricket team participation in the matches, then...

Not about the U.S, Israel, or Bush?

I'm stunned. Good show pp. Variety is the spice of life.

Politics and sports shouldn't mix so long as the safety of sports men and women are not compromised.

That's my ideal, anyway.

In reality, it happens. I'm too young to remember Moscow Olympic, though.

Semi-permanent exclusion of South Africa worked? Was there any connection with South African rugby and the triamph of Mandella?

Well philosophically CV I agree, but it would be nice if even one of the fucking cricketers showed they have some bollocks and said "No I'm not bloody going", rather than "duh, me sport guy, me no read newspaper."

Nor can do. They are cricketers for fuck sake!

Some of Chelsea footballers refused to go to Israel just after 9/11. See how footballers got balls?

Or was it self-preserving chicken shit? (The rest of them did go to play the match - so they were the ones with balls) See how I argue in circle with myself...

p_p_man: Yeah I was just watching that. Mugabe is killing half of his population and has refused to admit his de-election by a free vote and so is now therefore a dictatorship. And he hasn't even been kicked out from the Commonwealth. Sometimes I wonder about Teflon Tony. His brilliant response to this is to tell the cricket team :"Don't worry. We'll make sure oyu don't have to shake hands with him."

Hanns: And of course American meddling in the Middle East, the persecution of the Indians, the gunboat politics in the Cold War and the screwing of Britain (your oldest ally) during the Suez crisis were only minor blips in the USA's gleaming history?

Peachykeen: Spot the Olympians who will opt out of Beijing 2008. I'm not sure I'd be able to turn down the chance to play for my country. It shouldn't be happening, but it is and I think its unfair to ask a sportsman to possibly lose any future chance of playing for his national side over something which the government should have sorted ages ago.

Nice point there PP. The Africa question looms out there for all to see, yet there is no booty to be had like there is in Iraq-

stay tuned to Africa, however...

Hey p_p_man, Did you see/read where South Africa is going to "study" Zimbabwes land redistribution program?Maybe the EU should send in the RDF to keep the peace. Or are you going to lay the Africa problem at the feet of the Americans?:p

Probably, because after all if you didn't need our help in reining in Saddam we'd have more time to take out Mugabe.

:p

Peachy: What amuses me is that the Cricket Associations are saying it is upto the country's government to decide if they should play or not... and the government is saying it is upto the associations.

Personally, no we should not play there.

I think one country (New Zealand?) has said they will not play there, and they did not even have any games schedualled there

England and Australia are still busy passing the buck.

BREAKING NEWS...

04.14am 13 January 2003...

Just came on TV that the Zimbabwe Government and the Opposition are prepared to sit down and discuss a power sharing deal when Mugabe steps down.

The only problem is they're talking about two years from now...

A little bit too late...

Right on, Peachy.
But apparently real sportsmen aren't affected by the bus driving over dead bodies in the street on the way to the game. Its the game that's the important thing.

Do you really believe that Mugabe will "step down".

I agree, Its a shame that a country that once fed itself, and exported food to its neighbors is now in such a shambles. :(
