How can you see into my eyes like open doors
leading you down into my core
where I’ve become so numb without a soul my spirit sleeping somewhere cold
until you find it there and lead it back home

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

now that I know what I’m without
you can't just leave me
breathe into me and make me real
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

Bring me to life
(I've been living a lie, there's nothing inside)
Bring me to life

frozen inside without your touch without your love darling only you are the life among the dead

all this time I can't believe I couldn't see
kept in the dark but you were there in front of me
I’ve been sleeping a thousand years it seems
got to open my eyes to everything
without a thought without a voice without a soul
don't let me die here
there must be something more
bring me to life

(Wake me up)
Wake me up inside
(I can’t wake up)
Wake me up inside
(Save me)
call my name and save me from the dark
(Wake me up)
bid my blood to run
(I can’t wake up)
before I come undone
(Save me)
save me from the nothing I’ve become

(Bring me to life)
I’ve been living a lie, there’s nothing inside
(Bring me to life)

Bring me to Life ~ Evanescence

Rae stepped into the quiet of the bar. It was dark, but she had expected that. Places like this were always dark. That was fine with her. The last thing she needed was anyone to recognize her.

Rae Elizabeth Dee (a picture of Rae) A name, and a face, that many people knew. And why not, her Husband was Walter Rockfort Dee, the Owner and CEO of WRD Communications, the newest entry into the cable news world. It was rumored that WRD would surpass CNN this year in news reporting. WRD was poised to become the next big network, with programming that would surpass ABC, NBC, CBS and all the rest.

Both Walter and Rae, his young and very beautiful wife, graced numerous newspaper front pages, and magazine covers both regionally, that region being none other than Los Angeles, and nation wide. Her miscarriage of less than a year ago made headlines, and Rae was none to happy about it.

Rae came from simple beginnings. Growing up in upper state New York. She had gone to New York City for college after she graduated high school, and it was there she met Walter. Walter was on the cusp of bringing his company, WRD Communications, into the world of news. He was a guest speaker at the college where Rae studied. Her beauty enchanted him. His wisedom, and handsome visage, even tho he were older, captured her. A whirlwind romance ensued, which culminated with Walter taking Rae back to California with him and proposing on the private WRD Communications jet.

Rae was 20 when she met Walter, who was a distinguished 35. She married him at 21, she was now 23 years old. Walter was 38 and still as distinguished and handsome as ever. Walter liked to have his ego stroked, and stroked often. His stunning wife was not enough for him, and often he strayed, seducing beautiful girls from his office, to the corner coffee shop where he got his coffee every morning.

Rae, having left school to marry Walter, of course did not have to work. She was not accustomed to the lavish lifestyle Walter was able to afford, so often she would volunteer at the local homeless shelter or animal shelter. She would find time to walk in the beautiful woods that surrounded her mansion in the hills of Los Angelos. She had friends, and often times went shopping, but again, her simple upbringing would stop her from making the same ridiculous purchases her friends made.

This particular evening, as the sun set, she had found herself at the small bar, not all that far from her Husband's office. She had gone to dinner with Walter, but he had to work well into the night, and had sent Rae home. She didn't argue, she never did. She believed him when he said he was working. But she wanted a drink, and wished he would have joined her. They could have gone dancing. But no, work always came first.

Evanescence, Bring Me To Life was playing in the background, and Rae smiled. She loved this particular song, loved the idea of being brought to life by someone's love. She once thought of Walter when she heard this song, how his love made her feel alive. But that feeling had been changing slowly, altho Rae would never admit it. She still loved Walter, she told herself, over and over again. He was all she had.

Moving to the seat at the end of the bar, she liking the wall being on one side, this way she could hide in the shadows if needed, and she hoped she would not need to. It was dark, and again, she expected that, no one would know her in here, right?

She ordered a shot of JD and a beer. Walter would cringe if he knew she were drinking that. Walter was very much a wine lover. Beer and JD were much too beneath him. But not Rae. She loved her JD.

He caught her silhouette as she entered the bar. His eyes, half glazed drank her in, as if for the first time. They ran up her legs, slim and slender, passed her toned ass, up her slim waist and full curve of her breasts. Her face last of all. As if it were the end of her, or the beginning. He was not sure. When he saw her beauty he may have started from the wrong end.

She needed to be drunk from the top down, not the bottom up.

He followed her. His drink in hand, some lousy beer that had been cheap enough at the time. Her footsteps in the heels light and bouncy compared to his. His felt low, his felt dark, threatening. His heels were the sound of stalking.

He stood, watching the shadows play long her face as she drank her beer. The darkness seemed to play about her figure, as if mocking him. He wasn't allowed to touch, but they were. They draped like velvet on her, drawing him in even further.

Even if he did not have his own plan for her, he would have come up. Who wouldn't? A dark sultry beauty here in the bar.

His hand touched at her back, fingers gently across her naked flesh, "Excuse me."

The words, thick, deep. They came from within his throat, echoing off her neck.

"You mind if I sit here?" He took the seat before she could say yes, before she could respond at all. His eyes dark, pupils drinking her in once more. He told himself not to, chided himself not too push too far, but seeing her now, watching her eyes on him did something to him.

Something low and masculine in his belly stirred at the thought of her eyes on him. He didn't have a bad body. It wasn't strong, or particularly muscular. Lean, perhaps, with a small belly. His hair deep brown, curled around his head. And the eyes as well. She seemed to stay with his eyes the most. Dark blue, endless, able to drown her if she stared for too long.

"My name is Jason... I saw you, and do you know what I thought?" he leaned in closer, taking in her scent for the first time. It hit him, and he paused, relishing in it. Soft and summery, like lavender. It trailed with him, making him mezmerized.

"I thought... there's a girl who wants to dance," A slow smile came to his lips. That had been his open, always been his open. In his studies of her he knew how much she wanted to dance, but her husband never allowed it.

"Would you do me the honor?" He held out his hand.

Rae was always aware of her surroundings. She had seen Him coming toward her, and already was trying to think of a nice way to tell Him to leave her be, depending on what He wanted.

"Excuse me. You mind if I sit here?"

The cool touch of His fingers along her back, Rae suddenly wishing she had worn a blouse, or a tee shirt, instead of the white tank top that currently adorned her torso. The deep rumble to His voice. She had not gotten a good look at Him when she noticed Him approaching, but when she looked up, she had half expecte4d to either see someone older, and very very drunk. Weren't most of the men who hung around in places like this, just like that? Why had she even come here?

Why? Because she was tired of the fancy clubs her Husband like to frequent, with all the snooty women, who thought they were ohhh so much better than everyone else.

Why was she there? Because this place was..................... normal. And so was this Guy, right?

Her own dark eyes, almost black they were so dark, met His intense blue. His eyes were beautiful, stunning, hypnotizing, and Rae could not look away, not right away at least.

For a moment she thought He was going to say something about who she was, who she was married to. Another stranger who recognized her from the news, the magazines. But no, intead.................... He surprised her.

"Dance?" she stammered, caught completely off guard.

She heard the jukebox start playing another song. She hadn't heard this one in along time, but she knew it well. She didn't like the Backstreet Boys in the least bit, but this song was so pretty, and she felt herself already moving to the slow melody.

Empty spaces fill me up with holes
Distant faces with no place left to go
Without you within me I can't find no way
Where I’m going is anybody’s guess

I’ve tried to go on like I never knew you
I’m awake but my world is half asleep
I pray for this heart to be unbroken
But without you all I’m going to be is incomplete

Voices tell me I should carry on
But I am swimming in an ocean all alone
Baby, my baby
It’s written on your face
You still wonder if we made a big mistake

I’ve tried to go on like I never knew you
I’m awake but my world is half asleep
I pray for this heart to be unbroken
But without you all I’m going to be is incomplete

I don’t mean to drag it on, but I can’t seem to let you go
I don’t wanna make you face this world alone
I wanna let you go (alone)

I’ve tried to go on like I never knew you
I’m awake but my world is half asleep
I pray for this heart to be unbroken
But without you all I’m going to be is incomplete

Incomplete ~ The Backstreet Boys

"Would you do me the honor?" He held out his hand.

Rae nodded, letting her slender fingers glide into His larger hand, which closed over, gently. She let Him draw her from the barstool, and out onto the small dance floor, another couple were dancing as well, older, married, smiling.

Rae, was lost in the sensation, the sway of her body, in the arms of another. But that lasted only a moment as the song played, and she moved, lithe, supple. She was just the perfect height for Him, her head easily would have rested just beneath His, on His chest. But instead she pulled back. Blinking as if waking from a dream.

"Jason, wait. I shouldn't be dancing with you. I'm sorry" Rae stammered, trying to pull back from Him, but not wanting to. It was only a dance, afterall.

She fit him as if in a dream, her steps in line with his, her movements, soft sways complimenting his own. He sighed when once they touched together, their bodies pressed in closer, before he felt her pull away.

Her hands enclosed in his. Small delicate fingers. He had captured her, a beautiful rare flower to be held. The verge in her voice faltered, but he heard the words.

"Are you sorry, for just one dance?" He nuzzled against her cheek, the soft light playfulness in his eyes. He laughed, unlike his voice his laugh was higher, child-like. It revealed the innocence.

"I saw the ring," he turned over her hand. The diamond large, encompassing her fingers, "It's ok, I understand."

His fingers trailed over hers, curious in the touch. Her skin felt so soft, so supple under his wandering fingers. Each caress stirred something else within him.

"Does he not allow you to even dance with another? Such beauty. I suppose if you were mine I would not allow you to dance with anyone else either. Could you... just pretend with me a moment? Close your eyes."

His hand went up to her face, cupping it, letting her eyes shut out the light. Fear and doubt dawned in those pupils, but as they closed it went away. All that remained were his guiding hands upon her, his body leading her, and the music thrumming through her.

"Let me pretend you are mine," He whispered in her ear, as he pulled in close, "Let me pretend for one moment a girl like you would be with a guy like me. Let me pretend for one dance what he has every day."

His cheek against hers, the slow movements against the soft melody. He closed his eyes as well, letting the bar fade away. They could have been dancing in heaven, under the stars. They could have danced in the dark void of space, swaying as planets soared beyond them.

He just held her close, felt her body hot and pulsing alongside his own, and the need growing deep inside. Nothing else seemed to matter.
