It could be worse. I picked it up gaming, and on one game the alternative term in common use for severely defeating or beating someone is "raped."

I actually gave up, confessed that I was much older, and stuck to my funky weird old person speak. Fortunately my guild members were tolerant sorts.

Yeah, we didn't use rape for anything else, in the roleplay world I lived in, you COULD rape, so...it was a different thing.

Games have cleaned up a bit.
