I had to come up for air, I am about a ¼ into the "monster" and have learned why it is lovingly called "The Monster", I almost forgot to make dinner. I have come up with more questions than answers, but a great deal of insite so far, but it is breaktime but I will dive back in later tonight.

Maso to the bone,
(and reading the monster just to read it proves this),

From one maso to another: have at it, darlin'!
You'll find company in those pages for your craving for new and different forms of torture. ;)

In my slightly just slightly biased opinion, that thread contains really interesting stuff. It's hard to understand, though, even for us who were there perhaps, that it took from July of last year until (when did we get this forum - Feb? March?) the beginning of this year to get 68 pages of posts. Things have begun to go a lot faster for us since we got this place, that's for double damn sure, and i like it.

Fewer Posters, and I think, subconsciously (pun unintended) we knew we'd lose our audience, and our chance at new posters, if folks had to hack their way through 150,000 posts just to get there.

That's my theory, anyway......

T?
Your location lines always make me laugh, you know that?
:D

T's location line also makes me laugh, only because I never realized anybody could see my shit whole town from Syracuse.

Well I made it through 30 pages yesterday, reading the thread itself isn't that bad, what makes it tough is having to check and read the links so I have some clue what is being talked about.

Somebody hit on something around page 17 (it may have been Hecate) about making a FAQ page out of the info found in The Monster, I was wondering does anyone know if this has been done or not. I am not volunteering (yet) to wrestling The monster to the ground and dissect it and make it into a friendlier being, but I may. I realize that doing this could take weeks, so for right now I just want to know if anyone has done this?

<unconsciously> I think if I chewed up the Monster and had Wizards link thread for a snack I maybe able to shit out something much easier for others to get through without being overwhelmed <back to reality>

I am still wading ... no, make that crawling, my way through all the various threads here!

I AM going to get to the monster/mother thread ... really I am. I have dipped a toe in once or twice already ... but I think a steady read is called for.

One thing that does spring to mind ... IF there is something I read there, that I would like to ask a question on ... would it be acceptable to just copy what I read and ask my question here? (I mean on this forum - not THIS thread.)

*going slightly squiffy eyed*

That would be the only way possible, now. The Monster thread is a closed thread. No new posts can be added.

So, starting a new thread with your questions would make sense. Please copy the relevant sections from the original though, so we can have some idea where to look if we need to review the original.

I've gone back and re-read parts of the Monster several times. It's interesting to see where things were then and where they are now.

I love the Monster thread.

As anyone who has actually waded through it knows, so much of my rebirth into the D/s lifestyle is documented there.

Posters there have absolutely no idea how essential the thread was to me, my growth, my safety (YES!) and my emotional needs during some very difficult times.

I wonder if I should print the thread and add it to my scrap book!

Hey! Brainfart! Perhaps I should have a lifestyle scrap book! I keep journals, why not devote a photo album or such to my exploration and ultimate happines? Hmmm

Looks like I will be busy today. :)

hugs to all :rose:

For me, too, the M thread is dear to my heart. It chronicled the best and worst of times for me, as a sub, and in its postings i found my place within the honest, sometimes bitingly so, community that is still central to the life of this forum.

Willow? If you want to take something from there, hit QUOTE as you would normally, then cut it out and paste it into a whole new forum thread. You cannot post to the thread anymore, as mg5 said, but you can let the program do the quote formatting for you. Additionally, please ref the page you took it from. Often, very often, we would discuss something for apage or two, then discuss something else for a while, then come back to the original topic again. Imagine trying to have three or four or seven strands of conversation going in one thread at one time - and everyone wants to participate - and everyone lives in different time zones - and you'll come close to the often quite complex weaving of our discussions in the M thread.

lilred? To my knowledge, no one ever did anything regarding the idea of writing a FAQ or Table of Contents or something along that line for the M thread. Have at it, girl! You'll be famous if you do. (At least among us!)

MissT? GREAT idea! If you're already in the habit of journaling, why not keep such a record of your progress, the places you stumble, the questions you have along the way, the manner in which you find out answers and discover deeper questions. Sounds like a book, eventually...

Thanks cym ... I have thought about saving the entire thread to my hard drive so that I could read it at my leisure and the task bar would only show 'boring ol mum' having a word document open. Would that be alright with people, do you think?

Thanks again

*keeping fingers crossed in the hope that my formatting worked on this post!*

Ohhhhhhhhhhh it did!!!

woooooohoooooooooo

*sorry - got carried away there*

Thinking Thinking Thinking

I will do it, but I have to put some thought into what will be the best way to do so that is is comprehensible, there is so much info there it is amazing. It's kind of like picking at God's brain.

Ok I just transferred the Monster to my system so I can start.

cym, because the Monster is closed, the quote function doesn't work. It won't format something for you. You have to do the old copy and paste.

The changes in my life aren't documented in the Monster, but my posts reflect those changes. It's one of the places i go when life gets me down, there's always a smile there.

Ack!
Thanks for the save, mg!

Yeh.
Cut 'n paste.
That's the ticket to mining the M thread and bringing the spoils back here relatively intact. Cut 'n paste, baby, cut 'n paste.
