Sometimes when I have a case of "writers block" I think to myself "If I can just finish SOMETHING, good, bad, short, long, poem, story, and submit it...I would get over this goddamned block!"

Does anyone else do that? I want to propose a thread of links to stories and poems we've written JUST to have written anything. They don't have to be good. Just uplifting for those of us with "The Block"

I wrote Setting the Wall, to get the drivelly taste out of my mouth from too much romance in The Human Condition and Chasing Fire to get me past a block on Amy's Smile. The last worked and I did finally finish a chapter of Amy after I posted Fire, but I'm still stuck on HC.

I've figured out 2 possible cures for writer's block.

1. Shut up and get on with it.

2. Shut up and do something else.

It has worked well for me this year. And yes, when I'm deeply involved in a story that I really want to get finished, and then I hit a brick wall - I've got a few other stories that I can carry on with in the mean-time. Like my unfinished horror, or a few scenes from old sci-fi books that I've eroticised.

But more often than not, writer's block is a phase and will pass in time. Just do something else. Read a book. Watch a film. Go for a walk, or clean your goddam bedroom (that always gets me into a writing frenzy - I'd rather do ANYTHING than go clean my goddam bedroom).

At the moment I'm really into a writing thing, which is good because I want the first draft of my short novel ready for the end of August. But I can't write music for shit. I just can't do it. And I'm really annoyed, because I want to have a soundtrack to accompany the novel (I did this for Rhiana but have never uploaded it).

This is my block story/essay. I wrote it in about twenty minutes, just sat down and ranted at my computer until I was done. Then I got up, did something else, and went back to whatever I was working on.

I'm relatively new here, but I was wondering given that this is erotica.

Wouldn't a good way to get over writer's block is to, well, fuck?

Even if one can't write after that, other things are better. OK, theoretically.

just cause it's erotica doesn't mean i draw my sources from sex. in fact, personally, my best stories have more to do with emotions than sex.

I write erotica, I rarely have writer's block on this subject.

OK, pretty sure I was teasing when I wrote it.

But

seriously

One of the reasons I love erotica is because there is SO MUCH emotion in 'moving into/during/and after' wonderful lovemaking.

And unfortunately, even worse emotions when lovemaking loses the emotional.

Just one aging guy's opinion.

OK, I'm ashamed to admit it but writing this stuff (sex stories--I hesitate to call my stuff 'erotic' or 'literature') is what I do to get past writers block: think of a sex scene and start writing, pretty soon the story starts to write itself and goes its own way.

Trying to force my non-sex writings to go the way I want them to go is difficult.
