My other thread had me sounding off about trying to buy bras without underwire. Here's the other issue. Front, back or no hooks. I know most sport bras have no hooks but what is the preference between front and back hooking bras? Which gives more shape and support? Which is more comfortable?

I prefer sports bras with medium support for comfort (when I am just running around the house - most the time, though, I am topless), but all of my bras hook in the back. Why not the front? Because the clasp gives no room for shrinkage in the material, and when the bra shinks (as it will when it is stuck in a shirt and in the wrong laundry pile), it will no longer fit like it should, causing more discomfort than I like.

are you male or female? got the impression you are male. If so why do you want a bra?

I prefer back hook, front ones scratch and pinch me.

If you are talking to me, I am buying lingerie as Christmas presents. Not for me to wear (well maybe sometimes ;) )

back hooks for some reason with front hooks i always feel like my tits are gonna fall out of the bra!!

treasured

Well for a long time I thought front hooks, ya know? maybe the guys could even figure them out without a major assist? but then this guy I knew, not "that" way but a friend, told me that the way we reach behind our backs and so easily pop the hook, and let a bra slide off our shoulders, just drove him wild. Said he so treasured us giving so gracefully what would take him hours to figure out. Laugh.

He was so clever. Wish I had known him "that" way?

I like front hooks, partly because my sweetie likes to unhook them. I also underwires for dress up & soft cup contoured bras for everyday. Full figured women tend to get better support from an underwire. Small to average busted women do well with either soft cup or underwire. For most women, it is a personal thing. Both of my sisters hate underwires.

I prefer no bra...but being an accountant (meaning, I actually have to leave the house AND look presentable) and a woman of ample breasts...I have to wear one. Usually an "old lady bra", cuz the cutsie ones aren't big enough for me. But, I do try to find the sexiest one they have. ;)

A side note to this would be: I don't think they make them with front hooks, but if they did, I don't think I'd buy them. When I was smaller (i.e. pre-sammy jr.) I used to wear the front hooks...I don't know why, probably thought they were cute. When you are young, you aren't always thinking about comfort. :)

Being lazy, I prefer front hooks. However, they seldom come in my size, so I use back hooks.

Have you checked out the bras worn by the recipient of the gift? It's going to have to fit and be comfortable, and women tend to pick a style and stay with it.

I appreciate lacy nothings as well as anyone, but not if I'm going to have to stand in line two hours to exchange it for something I can actually wear.

If I answer this question, do we get pictures?

I like back-hook bras because of the flexibility in band sizes. Sometimes, I want it roomier, sometimes not. However, I do have front-hook bras that are for play.

CreamyLady was spot on about checking out the bras the recipient wears. Finding the right bra is not easy. So unless this is a "for play" bra, it might be better to forgo the surprise and get her opinion or get her a gift certificate.

(Good luck, I personally thinks it's wonderful when a man really wants to know how these things are supossed to fit as opposed to how the bra's going to look on the floor.)

Stop it,,, trying to sound as if you are old,,,, SHEESH!!!

:p

Being me, I prefer bras that are tiny and slinky, the ones that cover my breasts in the perfect manner to turn men who are fortunate enough to see them into drooling, gibbering idiots whose thinking is done with their erections.

Of course, the reality is less exciting. Big heavy knockers, big heavy bra with underwire, fat straps, four, count 'em, four hooks in the back because everything else wears out in a month. Forget sports bras, forget those adorable front clasps, forget the delicate straps and delicate lace. I'm talking heavy duty front end loaders here. Double ought buck doublebarrel slingshots.

*sigh*

Big chested girls come share my woes
No pretty, sexy bras for me
It's industrial strength or they're rubbin my toes
Were they ever cute and perky?

I get smacked in the face whenever I run
Jumping and bouncing is out
Forget aerobics, ouch, that's no fun
They act like they're in a heavyweight bout.

Haven't seen my feet since I was, I forget
Cause they stick out so damned far
You can imagine their only asset, I bet
One peek and guys suddenly have the IQ of their car.

Robert A. Heinlein, in one of his novels, opined that "a bra should open on the same side as the garment over it." Front clasp bras for blouses and resses that button in front, and back clasp for dresses and tops that open in the back.

It seemed like a logical suggestion at the time I read it. However, from the responses so far, it would seem that availability rules the choices for most.

I kinda thought most front-clasp bras are either push-ups or just an adornment that performs no real function.

My personal preference is back-clasping soft cups, because the underwires usually hurt me. But I belong to the larger-breasted variety, so they also usually have thick straps, etc. (see KM's lament, it's perfect muff! lol)
Both for comfort and because pretty ones in my size are hard to find and very expensive.

Hey, I love bras, especially a matching set of bra and panties, mmmm, women just look so yummy like that.

I don't really have a preference whether they be front of back closing, but don't throw us by having only one of a type..then when we finally get it figured out how to get you out of one, you change on us, that's just not fair of the ladies...

And Naked Hunny...is there a problem with you falling out of your bra??? I like that image :)

If your going to do that(fall out of your bra) please, please, please give me some warning so I can be there! Who-Waa! What an image that brings to mind!

comshaw (doing as Killer Muffin suggested and thinking with his little head)

Ultimately, I prefere sports bras. They are, by far, the most comfortable. After that, I would have to say front hook. Most of the styles out there are prettier that the back hook ones. :)

Well then granny :p how about if I just get closer,,, whisper in your ear,,, and slid my arms around that frail body to keep you vertical,,, or do you need to lay down for a bit?

Glasses are optional,,, imagination is not.

I think laying down would be best...I'm sure I couldn't stand upright for very long. You make me weak in the knees pal :)

And my imagination is definitely going wild! ;)

I had to respond to this one!

Sports bra? Are you JOKING? Ok, mental image for the guys...take your manly equipment, compress it to 1/4' thickness and then try some aerobics.

Underwire, non-stretch straps 4-hook back closure and the lovely fashhion choice of white or beige. For that I get to pay $25.00 (on sale) per brassiere. There's the shape debate too.

Matching sets? Sure, I can once in a blue moon find a pretty set. Bra will fit...panties? Ya wanna wear them with me? Not every woman with bigger than a C cup has a big butt to go with it. I cannot help my genetics gave me my father's ribcage and shoulders with my mom's hips and butt.
