Which do you rely on to get you by in life- your brain or your beauty? No fair answering "both", either. You have to pick which you rely on the most. So, which is it?

It's easier to answer if you only have one of the two, by the way. My answer would be "brain."

Beauty never showed here,,, so brain wins by default,,,LOL

I think I'm pretty average on both counts, but my brains have definitely been the more useful of the two.

...although my cute chubby cheeks may have gotten me a few innocent favours along the way. (hehe) Yeah, cute when I was a kid, but damn! I never grew out of them.

I'm not afraid to admit I get by on my looks.

I look retired, so the government pays me every month so I don't have to think to get by.

Well I ain't purrty soooooooooooo....The little brain I have left does it...

The way I look at it, and I mean no offense to anyone at all by this, isn't there a sort of negative flavor to getting by on your looks? I mean, usually good looks are given to you--you do nothing to earn them. (Unless you have an expensive plastic surgeon.)(Also assuming your plastic surgeon isn't the one who worked on Melanie Griffith and Michael Jackson.) Plus, as we all know, beauty fades.

So if someone answers, "Beauty," are they "admitting" they're not that smart? Or are they coming off as conceited? Just wondering.

My answer is definitely Brains. I'm not ugly, but I'm not gorgeous enough for it to be any kind of a bankable asset. I have never consciously used my looks to gain any type of advantage.

Cool topic

My brains when they're engaged. Otherwise...I don't get by! I've never thought of myself as anything other than average. My kid sister, though...she could work her beauty as a teenager. I'd say that was brains in action!

sound's like we've got a zombie problem 'round here... i hear more people moaning "braaaainsss" than a clip from Night of the Living Dead!! ;)

and i'll go with brains, too... *dumb blond impression* it's, like, what everybody's doing now, ya know?

Definitely brains. However, I would argue that a lot of "looks" are controllable. Cleanliness, smart dressing, and a smile do wonders for anyone.

Wonderful, Wonderful Smiles

well .... at the risk of not sounding fair Cheyenne ...

I would have to say both ...

.... but really dear ... which gets me by?

that would depend on what the situation is, right? for instance i remember a little while ago ... i had to run into a building to run an errand and there was no parking around ... i had no money for the parking lot which was adjacent to the building ... well ... guess what ... i smiled sweetly at the attendant ... explained my dilemma ... and voila ... instant free parking ... :) ... ummmm i don't think it was my brains that got me by there ... ha ha ...

same thing happened with a cop once when i got out of getting a speeding ticket ...

However ... my brains got me by in finding and securing a job, writing, decision-making (well maybe i would have to take that one back ... i suck at decision-making lol), problem-solving, etc.

I get by on my sense of humor, so I guess that would be brains. However, as you all know, I do commercial voice-overs and some pretty big accounts. I have a deep baritone voice and a wonderful delivery. Would you chalk this up in the beauty column? I do. I have a beautiful voice.

Well, after reading my post, I still haven't decided. Hmmm.

What do I rely on????

...the kindness of strangers.

Cheyenne, you tease! I got excited for a split second thinking this was a thread devoted to me. Humpfh! :(
How disappointing! Whaddya mean we can't say both? Are you telling me I have to change my name now to one or the other? Unh unh. Aint gonna happen.

But you may extrapolate my answer from the order in which those 2 delineators of my Lit moniker appear. :) It does say BrainyBeauty after all and not Beautiful Brain.

Its really a synthesis but....

Brains for the most part. Although in my profession you rarely get through the doors (at least early in your career) unless you are estheticly appealing.

Beauty opens the door. Brains get you asked back.

Wish I could say beauty, but I can't. Wish I could say Brains, but I can't. Fact of the matter is, I don't get by. I can't tie my shoelaces any more. At first it was for conveniece - I just tucked the ends into my shoe. Now, I have forgotten how to tie them, so I have no other choice. (Except for those cool K-mart Velcro ones).

Style.... ALL the way.

MADDOG and Brains/beauty

MADDOG, you are full of little green frogs. As I recall, you are employed as a professional pilot. Dumb ones don't last long.

Brains carry me. At my level of busness, if you are very good looking, and/or have large breasts, you must learn to downplay them by your choise of clothes, glasses, and hair style.

As an electronics technician for over 25 years, and more recently an administrative assistant and computer-applications specialist, I had to have brains. So to get what I need financially and professionally, it's brains.

As a wife, I am smart enough to know how to look good for my man: exercise, eat right, wear sexy clothes. So to get what I need from him emotionally and sexually, it's beauty that SEEMS to win out.

Why does anybody HAVE to pick one over the other, or just "get by" on either one? You can use the combination of your brains and looks to get everything you want and need out of life.
