I know most of you do not know me or recognize my user name. But, I would appreciate a bit of help and guidance.

What do you think of this book? What is the general consensus on this book within the community? I'm wondering if this book receives much acceptance among those participating in BDSM or if there is a feeling of negativity.

I am in the process of some extensive research on the topic - from a purely academic level - and could really use assistance.

Thank you so much.

I wish I could help you lavender but I have not read this book. The title piques My interest as in this lifestyle bondage is often freedom.
Bondage of the mind and body.

I am sorry also
I have never heard of the book

Perhaps if you tell us what you are researching and why
some of us might be able to help in other ways

I'm actually doing a report on the law, issues of consent, BDSM and feminism. I currently am discussing various cases - including Paddleboro, the Spanner case, the "branding" case in England, the New York case of Jovanovic, and some older cases.

If you have any good sources for these cases, or if you have any information on other legal problems withint the community, I would love to have information.

I think my information is sufficient. I have been doing an amazing amount of research, but I'm just trying to assure that there is no stone unturned. :)

Lavender,

If you are writing about consent - then you had better go to the United Kingdom Government's web site and take a lookat the stuff on posotive consent in the new sex offences act.

If you look around you will find a number of posts by me on this subject.

I know my ex wife used our lifestyle against me in the divorce
She claimed batered women's syndrome

A lawyer here in town is part of the lifestyle
When I saw what she was doing I went to him
He said I was

Could you provide a link?

Lavender,

You already have the Spanner Case so you can find that.

Take a look at the Sexual Offences Bill sections on Consent Para 78 on. The problem is that if you read the notes it introduces the notion of continual positive consent and if at a later date consent is argued about - it asks what a "reasonable person" would regard as consent and withdrawal of consent.

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld200203/ldbills/026/03026.i-vii.html

As is often the case one has to look at things holistically - and in the interests of fighting Domestic Violence there is a directive from the Home Office through the Ministry of Health that places a legal duty on Doctors and Nurses to call in the police if they believe someone has injuries resulting from D.V.

Consider what might happen if a scene gets out of hand and a sub has to get treatment - the expectation is that a DV victim may lie about their injuries. How in court can a Dom establish the existance of reasonable consent to a Vanilla Jury?

Well, thanks for dropping by then to let us know how much you know. We all think you are wonderfully smart if that helps.

I think the last time the legal aspects of BDSM, consent and feminism were discussed in any detail here was in a thread or two about Jovanovic...they might have been your threads.

At any rate, the Search function works here as well as on the GB.
