Henri Auguste Bouchard, natural son of a marquis, one-time Jacobin, and a colonel in Napoleon's Grand Army, has escaped the debacle of Waterloo.

He hasn't done so alone. During the height of his career, he had taken a series of mistresses, from a variety of countries. None of them felt like being camp followers, so he simply found new ladies. Not holding any delusions that Julie, his French peasant wife, was faithful to him, either.

But, yet, despite the near certainty of her own adultery and the fact of his downfall, his Julie had proven more loyal than he had ever expected. She insisted on following him into Italy.

Still, there is some additional tension, for his daughter by one of his earliest mistresses, an Alsatian girl named Gerda, has chosen to accompany her father and stepmother.

Can their family have any harmony, especially given that the 18 year old Gerda has developed her first serious crush: on her own father?

Thankfully, he has plenty of loot saved up, so there are no money troubles. Because there are enough other issues to create friction for the trio. And will Julie prove more jealous now that she is with Henri that she used to be? Or more faithful, for that matter?

PM for the roles of Julie and Gerda.
