Ok here's one for you to think about...
Three men go into a TV store to buy a second hand television.
The price is £30 (or dollars). They each paid 10 dollars.
When they left the manager told the assistant he should only have charged £26 (or dollars)
The assistant took 4 dollars out of the till and ran after the men.
Before he reached them he put 1 dollar in his pocket thinking they wouldn't know they were being short-changed.
He reached the men and gave them back 1 dollar each.
NOW THE QUESTION:
He gave them 1 dollar each which means they paid 9 dollars each for the TV.
9 x 3 men = 27 dollars
Plus the 3 he gave them back = 30 dollars (the original price of the TV) BUT the assistant has got 1 dollar in his pocket.
Where did that come from?
Answer in two minutes from...NOW!

he took 4 dollars out of the drawer.... and after giving 3 to the men... there is still one left that is in his pocket

The dollar in the clerk's pocket is the difference between the $26 they shoul dhave paid, and the $27 thay actually paid after the refund. Each man should have gotten another 33.3 cents.

there's not 31.... see the manager said that he should have only charged 26... so the assistant took 4 out of the drawer, put one in his pocket and gave the other three to the men... therefore.... 26+1+3=30 so there was never 31 unless 1 appeared out of nowhere
