I have been depressed for a couple of weeks and think that a good drunk will possibly cure what ails me.

Give me some suggestions of what are your fave depression-drinks to seek out when I hit the liquor store tomorrow. They can't be comlicated--I'll be drinking alone and on a budget. Keep that in mind.

Thanks in advance for your advice.

Though I dont recomend drinking while being depressed, my favorite drinks would have to be....

A 12 pack of moosehead, and a bottle of southern comfort, or yukon jack.

That usually cures what ails me....

i never drink when depressed..

makes me think of my problems which makes me more depressed and having to deal with a hangover to boot

doesn't sound like fun to me

how about a nice new avatar instead?

I know...I know...but I found this the other day and thought of you straightaway!

Hmmm I like hard lemonade.

It doesn't make me happier, but one will help me to unwind and sleep when stressed..

Maybe that isn't a good thing, but it is just me.

:D

lately i find myself rather fond of the pre-mixed margaritas that come in a fifth-size bottle...the one by jose cuervo is very good...just unscrew the top and pour over ice

but hon, drinking while depressed? alone? i've read lots of your medical advice posts...you ought to know better...do yourself a favor and get laid instead :D

(just kidding of course...sort of)

How about ..

finding some way to pamper yourself, instead?
Talking with someone who loves you?
Brightening someone else's day?
Volunteering at a homeless shelter?
re-reading your posts on Lit to see what a caring person you are and how many people you've reached out to and helped!

Please, don't do the booze thing.

As you know,

Depression + Depressant = Duh?

Tequila... straight shots with Lime and Salt. I've done way too many lately.

All right--I'll go with the majority suggestion and get some tequila. Down here in South Texas, we certainly have an excellent selection to choose from.

Sigh, I get those premixed ones sometimes myself--I like the Baccardi mixers too though--I suppose my willingness to hit the supermarket will dictate that purchase.

Now y'all who are concerned about me drinkin when depressed--I don't do this every day. (I am too cheap to be an alcoholic and am old enough to know my self well--it is not even a remote risk anymore.)

I have been craving an evening of drinking and, when here alone, I don't have to worry about driving and I can go hit the sheets as soon as I wish. It is also good for laying around in my underwear and (gasp) turning on the TV or watching a film (things I very rarely indulge in).

Considering my history with severe clinical depression, any short term remedy that helps is a good thing. One single evening of drinking to deep relaxation and vegitating can't be a bad thing.

Thanks for the suggestions and concern--I'll catch you guys tonight.

Oh yeah--and Blushing Rose--thank you for the avatar suggestion. I think it is great and will play with it when I get home tonight.

(Miles, would that be okay? I would not want to misrepresent myself as some one I am not, ya know. :p )

Of Course Not

Well, all you really have to do is pretend to be yourself and use your own name. Nobody will ever know the difference.

I'm not worried, though. You're a gooooood girl.:D

For me, when I get depressed, I don't drink <alcoholism runs in my family so I stay away when I am depressed>. I usually take a really long, hot shower <yes a shower not a bath>. After that I sit down and read a really good book. Usually by the time I'm done <about 3-4 hours> I don't feel as depressed anymore.

BOOSE

jack daniels or just plain beer.moonshine would do the trick if you knew someone who makes it.it has some kick to it.trust me i know.

12 or 24 pack of Milvaukees Best Ice and a fifth of Captain Morgans Spiced goodies.

Dont help one bit, but knocks me unconcious and gives me wonderful dreamless nights.

Hey--how can you pretend ot be yourself? It is possible to pretend to be what you already are?

And what makes you think I am a gooooood girl? Isn't that subjective? Or are you one of those delicious nasty and kinky guys--the kind I crave?

I tried this method for about 10 years. Didn't work. Took me some time to figure that out. Numb is not better. Numb is numb. It starts out fine, you might feel good, forget about things for a short time. Then after a period of time it takes another drink or two to reach the same blissful state. Then one or two more. It doesn't work. It becomes a habit.

Why not talk with a friend or loved one when feeling this way? Post your stress and frustrations here rather than swallowing them. If the depression does not lift then my dear you need to talk to someone with the correct credentials.

I never found an answer in a bottle.

Well, it worked for me. I feel much better this morning. I enjoyed myself and treated myself to a new variety (to me, anyway) and will head to work all smiles this morning.

(ST, I am wondering if you read my postings here before responding.)

Yeah, I have.

Did you bother to read what I wrote? I am glad you felt fine in the morning. I am sure that 20 years from now you will still feel fine the morning after a drunk. Best cure for depression out there. Yep.

Excuse the fuck out of me.
