Has anyone given any thought of promoting their work...offline? Book signings, reading groups etc...

Yea, I think in today's climate it's becoming more and more important. That's assuming you've got a talent for it, some people would be better staying well away from that scene.

Personally I need to get that first deal with the agent and the publisher, then I'll self promote like it was going out of fashion.

I haven't done a tour per se, but I've traveled a little to do some signings. Last summer I went to the University of Cincinnati and spoke to a creative writing class and read a little from my book. I'm starting to get some radio attention because of my band and I usually get to plug the book quite a bit, too. A couple weeks ago I did an interview on a radio talk show to plug a signing I was having and talked about my band and the Grammy thing for almost half of it. One kind of leads into the other.

Signings and such seem to open up alot of doors. I did one at the Indiana State Fair and sold 8 books to people who weren't there to buy books. It was strictly an impulse purchase for them. That's a rough way to do it, but because it was successful I got to meet a lot of people who I may not have otherwise gotten to talk to.

My publisher expects an effort to self-promote. Doesn't have to be a "tour" or a book signing. Online efforts are adequate (especially for eBooks). I've done several interviews ... which are referenced on my blog (http://alessiabrio.blogspot.com). The blog, too, is part of the promotion process. (I'd not have it otherwise.)

Gosh! I like you, so I'm going to give you my two cents. You can tell me to kiss your ass afterwords (hopefully not). Could you think about maybe if you have the time to get around to consider the thought of hopefully changing the color scheme of your blog?

I've been planing a citywide tour, but I have to avoid certain counties that have a band on just about every type of porn. Welcome to the South. I have talked to a few people at a few adult night clubs and adult book stores, who are willing to allow me to promote in there spots.

Are there any tips are tricks to interviewing about porn? I had a guy who read one of my books who asked me have I sleep with my mother. Nearly got into a fight.

Black S,
I know of a club that might work for you no too terribly far from your area. PM me and I have to contact the owner and see if she is interested.
