Does anyone know of any publishing houses for BDSM related stories?
I know there are many top shelf books of this genre around now...particularly at motorway service areas here in UK. I do not know who the publishers are, and as I have a manuscript in preparation, I need to know who to approach in order to try and get it published.
Anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Dave

But one or two of the books at a motorway service area and look at the copyright page -- there should be a pubisher's name if not a full mailing address.

The Internet should give you a contact point once you've got the name and you can write or e-mail for submission requirements.

Alternatively, note the titles of a few of the books you see and search the web for more info on those titles.

For UK writers, buy The Writers' Yearbook.

It tells you about publishers, what they will and WON'T accept, about agents and how to get published.

Sending an unsolicited manuscript to a publisher is like trying to win the big prize in a lottery. You do have a chance, but you are more likely to be hit by lightning or see a cat buggering a hedgehog.

As Og said.... trying to publish (almost anything) with a decent sized publishing house (vanity press and co-op press aside) without an agent is like finding that proverbial needle in the haystack.

I suggest that if you have a piece of fiction (regardless of content) that you find yourself an agent. Agents don't generally "discriminate" based on the content of your book, they will take anyone they think will be publishable and will make them money.

It isn't terribly difficult to get an agent, you can find out information on the subject in the "writer's market"....which is expensive, so I suggest you go to the library to get it.

Now, honestly, if after a year of exhausting every avenue to get an agent possible (including standing outside their offices in a chicken suit) you still don't have one....then it is so unlikely that you will ever be published (particularaly if you were considering sending your MS in unsolicited)...that you should probably take time to re-group and hone your skills before sending yourself back into the publishing forum.

I know tons of writer's with agents. I have an agent. I don't think that agents are too terribly difficult to get. I got mine on my 5th try. I would go that route....it's worth the 10-15%.

Chimera Press and Olympia Press are two publishers that I'm familiar with that publish BDSM books for the UK market. Check out www.erotica-readers.com and click on the "Calls for Submissions" section -- they have complete guidelines for submitting to many of the erotica publishers in the US and UK.

Thank you all

Just a quick note of thanks for the advice from you all. I will follow all of these up promptly.

Should I get a prize in the 'publishing lottery' , it will be my pleasure to send you all a copy of the book in gratitude.......................and if I do happen to see a cat buggering a hedgehog, I will be sure to let you know !;)

Thanks

Shit, that's scared me. My first novel was accepted by the first publisher I sent it to. So was my first technical textbook.

There are big clouds outside, and we have two cats, and we feed a hedgehog in the garden so .....

There is hope yet !
Thanks Snooper..............I don't give much for the chances of that hedgehog though ! :(

I think I'd be more inclined to offer sympathy to the cats.

I originally said we feed a hedgehog, not eat it.

However, you wrap your hedgehog entirely in a ball of wet clay.
Then you slow bake it for several hours, usually in the embers of a bonfire.
When you crack the clay open, the spines come off with the clay, leaving one skinned, baked hedgehog. It tastes rather like real chicken (as opposed to chain fast food chicken).
