And bollocks again. Went to the polling station today to discover that my former Lady made a cockup on the registration form for our house and so therefore no-one who lives here is registered to vote. So therefore I can't express my opinion on this government. I live in a marginal seat too, which the Tories could have won.

It's depressing as hell; IMHO everythign the Tories promised could be really good for this country and I think that a lot of people would agree in general with their policies. Unfortunately, they don't stand an earthly because Michael Howard has 'something of the night about him' and he'll obviously bring Britain back to how it was under Thatcher.

Every man and his wife hates Blair; 67% of people polled say that they won't trust anything he has to say. But he's still going to walk this election because people just won't vote Conservative because they hold a grudge against Thatcher. Fuck the policies, let's make our votes based upon how the political parties were arranged 10 years ago, obviously nothing could have changed between now and then.

And to add insult to injury, you get these moronic people who support Labour because the Sun does and because they think voting Tory is goign to result in an invasion of the Falkland Islands. And they're talking about how terrible it would be if the Conservatives get in by using the brilliant 'facts'. £35billion in cuts, economic black hole, stripping public services. Never mind that there are no cuts in the Conservative manifesto, or that their economic plans have been verified by the independent IMF as kosher or that their plans involve putting more people into public services by cutting back on bureaucracy. Labour have repeated these things so many times that they've now become 'facts' in the minds of these facile idiots.

So basically, we're going to be stuck with a liar who has the moral depth of a hyena, a government which is determined to rule, rather than to serve, an economy which will be thoroughly shafted by increased integration with Europe, a 'Big Government' obssessed with making petty little laws and I didn't even get a chance to vote against it.

The boring moral is...

...always check the voting register yourself months before any election is due.

Even if you know you filled in the form correctly, human error is always possible.

"Mr Smith? We haven't got anyone of that name registered at your address. Are you sure you aren't Mr Smiht? You are? Can you prove that you are Mr Smiht and NOT Mr Smith? You can't? Sorry. Only Mr Smiht can vote."

While having to put in a good word for Mr. Blair - although I've never been able to look at him quite the same way since he appeared in a rather unusual dream of mine - I'm with you on the Sun-level decision-making process. Is there, really, any more repulsively brash, arrogant, horribly cheery and self-congratulating phrase in the English language than the dreaded, predictable ...

"IT WAS THE SUN WOT WON IT!"

*shudder*

This is just a wild guess, but I assume that Tories are Conservatives. Yes/No?

Yes. They're the same thing. Labour are currently the party in power and probably will be tomorrow as well. The Tories/Conservatives are the major opposition.

Tories is an old term for Conservatives, retained by the media because it is shorter than Conservative.

When Conservatives were Tories, the other party was the Liberals known as Whigs. That was about the time of the American War of Independence. Tories in America were also known as Loyalists i.e. loyal to the Crown. What happened to them after the war was not pleasant...

Labour were called Socialists. I doubt any Socialist would recognise New Labour as being socialist.

PS: There were/are also subsets:
Labour and Cooperative
Conservative and Unionist
The current Liberal Democrats are an amalgamation of the Liberals and the Social Democrats...

I am hoping this is not a complaint about the failure of the Americans to invite Tories to the Boston Tea Party. They simply would not have fit in with the other guests!
