Bobsgirl!

The funny thing is that I've been working on smaller wall hanging sized quilts before starting this one. The picture in the book is only 4" square, so I don't know what I thought, but I've got the middle section finished and on the wall and Bluebie looked at it, then looked at the book, then looked at it again, and said, "Wow. That thing is going to be HUGE!"

It's at least 84" square. How big is that?

84" will at least fit on a twin bed, and probably a double, but it won't go all the way to the floor. It would look amazing as a coverlet.

somey, those are gorgeous, no kidding. :)

Kaffe Fassett's Road Quilts, Quilt Road...something like that. The original quilt name is "Mossy Radiation"

The trickiest part is going to be cutting the triangles.

This pattern was MADE for jelly rolls. *hint hint*

I wondered where they'd move the cult of the quilt meetings to.

So we could always add a few more borders to make it fit. Once I make it to that part, I think the hard part will be over (piecing wise).

I'm trying to talk bobsgirl into coming down for the Quilt Festival end of Oct/beg of Nov. We'll have a party. Wanna come?

Now this one is spectacular.

Where did you find the pattern?

Any excuse to buy MORE frickin' fabric, ya know?

Oh, by the way -- just as a little 'enticement' -- fabric at the Festival is often quite a bit less expensive than your local quilt shop. I got some fabulous deals last time I went (without Bluebie). The LAST time I went was with him and I didn't get to shop. I think we're going on different days this year!

Well if the Birthday Girl ever makes it back in here, I've got to get her opinion on HOW TO cut these triangles.

I'm having a problem with my light-to-dark-with-color-change-progression:

Both versions of the quilt pattern I've shown are basically randomly set in the strips for pattern & color. The layout calls for a big strip to be made by sewing smaller strips together. Then 3 large triangles are cut from the center of the large strip, leaving 2 (basically) 1/2 triangles on either end. You sew these two halfs together to have enough to cut out the 4th triangle. That's fine if your colors are randomly placed, but in a fixed progression it won't work because the lightest will be paired with the darkest and there goes the progression.

I think I'm going to have to sew the large strip bigger (keep the progression going) and cut 4 whole triangles out of it. I'll have 2 large leftovers for each row of triangles, but they can just be used on another project another day.

Any other ideas around this?

yep, borders would do it. They're pretty easy to do.

That would be some big-ass quilt though. :D

somey, we're discussing quilting at a porn board. That appeals to me for some strange reason.

This ain't your granny's quilting bee. ;)

If I'm understanding thsi right, can you flip one of the halves around so the colors match up? Otherwise, you may need to do it the way you thought of. let me see if I can find the pattern. Damn, I love this pattern! You're inspiring me!

This isn't the first time I've ever discussed quilting here. Otherwise I'd never have discovered that St. Petey prefers white-on-white work and lusts after the woman who won last year's $100,000 challenge. Who knew?

You need to remind yourself: this isn't JUST a porn board. It's a cocktail party. It's a social club. It's a therapy session. and so on and so on ... :)

I told you inspired me. Amazon.com is a wonderful thing. I just bought the Kaffe Fassett book. And since I had free shipping, I bought two!

Yay, I love the Internet!

Me too. It's so simple, but so cool. Kaffe Fassett's fabrics and colors are so inspiring. I'm SURE he's gay. Who else would put together the things he does?

I was all ready to do either French Braids http://www.augustwindquiltdesigns.com/Quickstart/ImageLib/French_Braid.JPG (which you could also do with your jellies)

(from here:) http://www.grubersquiltshop.com/images/bk_french_braid_quilts.jpg

or try Strips and Curves http://sewfromtheheart.com/images/stripeandcurve.jpg
from

When I got waylaid by Mr. Fassett. I just had to do that one first.

Butting her nose in....those quilts are gorgeous someplace. I particularly love the first one.

I'll scan the pages of the pattern for you tomorrow so you can get started. They won't be in color and won't be as good as the book, but at least you can see the fabric requirements and maybe get started.

Which other one did you get?

Wait until you get a load of the quilt called "Postcard" -- it's his take on an antique quilt at the Victoria & Albert Museum. They did several versions of it and it's just...WOW.

HELLO YOU!!!!!! I'm so glad you popped in. I think *cross fingers* I've talked bobsgirl into trying the same quilt pattern at the same time. We can lend moral support to each other if it gets tricky.

This is going to be fun. It will be exciting to see how different the two look using the same pattern. (of course, once she gets her hands on those books she may change her mind like I did).

I thought about you today. Looks like I'm going to the Bahamas next year. Don't I remember you going there? ...or was that Bermuda?

oooo oooo butting in again...I looooove the French Braids one.

Great taste someplace.

*do I need to find a Bob to stay in this thread?*

That will be cool both of you doing the same pattern at the same time. Kind of a long distance small quilting bee.

Bahamas...cool. I've never been there..or Bermuda. Maybe you're thinking when I went to the Dominican Republic for my son's wedding.

That must have been it. But I thought of you anyway and here you are. Nice to "see" you again.

Of course not. Everyone knows a quilting bee is more about the community spirit, the communal sharing of ideas, catching up with each other, encouraging, gossiping, problem-solving, etc.

....kind of like .... you get the picture. *laughs*
