Bluegrass Music

That's what that was!

I thought someone rocked over a cat's tail!

 ;)

Yep. Here's a fan.

I resisted it a lot as I was growing up, but I've been around it all my life and nowadays I just find the music incredibly jubilant.

Bill Monroe, the Carter Family, Allison Krauss, Patty Loveless, Flatt and Scruggs, Gillian Welsh. It's all good. :)

yes

I like most types of music. Patti Loveless is one of my favorite singers period because her voice is so pure.
Ricky Skaggs plays some good blue grass too.

i'm not a huge fan but i have a few cd's and i've written two bluegrass style songs. what i am a fan of is the bluegrass musician. while most of the lyrics of bluegrass songs are somewhat simplistic the music isn't. blue grass guitar is a lot like swing guitar. in any 4 bars there will be anywhere from 6 to 8 chords. they may be minor variations of the same chord but they keep you real damned busy.

bluegrass fiddle players have my utmost admiration. learning to play the fiddle has been kickin' my ass for 20 years. if i paractice an hour a day for 30 days i get all the way up to "i suck".

i play the banjo at an intermediate level and will sit with my mouth hanging open and watch a true banjo picker pick. there is so much shit going on in a banjo lead that it makes my head swim.

mandolin is another instrument that, when played right, rocks my socks. try tripple pickin' one of those little rascals for a whole gig and see if your arm doesn't get tired.

so while i don't listen to bluegrass every day i enjoy the hell out of it when i do.

I like Bluegrass, but then I listen to Country more than anything, and a bit of Celtic, and they're all related way back. The Rum Runners is my favorite Bluegrass band. They're a beach band in the South Bay area (Los Angeles) and have a decent following. *plugs her brother's band* Had to. It's nice when people recognize him when he attends a festival or concert. Makes dad real proud :)

I grew up on the stuff. There are a few songs I remember fondly. My tastes run more toward Celtic on that end of the music spectrum, but hell. I like all kinds.
