And did I mention blue? Everyone may have thought that we were heading toward 80's black, white, silver (I did!). But stores that haven't been doing too well--like the Gap--hit the jackpot this time. They're going for denim blue fashions that are a cross between 80/60's (both Gap & Levis are bringing back their original denim fashions from the 60's/70's). And either shoppers are going for this blue fashion or other stores/designers thought the blue looks so good that they're doing the same (or both!). And so we have cobalt blue, quilt blue, denim blue, dark-blue-fading-to-light and light-blue-fading-to-dark....it is the color for Fall/Winter. Most especially, a deep, stormy Atlantic blue. The stores are drowning in blue!

Mark my word, when you're sitting in your rocker reflecting back on the fashions of the "tweens," blue on blue on blue is what will come to mind...that and middle-east scarves.

What do I think? I think it's going to be strange to go to a party and seeing almost everyone wearing blue. HOWEVER...I like it! :cattail: The color looks good on most women and men, and it's flattering to most figures (slimming). And, of course, I like it because it's a color I can wear ;) and most outfits feature it in solids rather than wildly patterned which, again, I can wear.

And I like blue. So. Go blue!

1) Middle-eastern scarves have been a staple item since the '70s
2) I have been debating whether or not to buy a pair of blue slacks... I think I will ;)

As I've been saying in other threads, just because something's been around forever doesn't mean that item has ever been a "must have" fashion item. You know that, Stella. Jeans have been around since 1873, a staple, but they weren't necessarily a must-have fashion item, an item that everyone had to have in their closet and be seen in, till the 1970's.

Ditto with the scarves. Until recently, I only saw ragged-edged Middle-East scarves worn by boho types. But now I'm seeing them being sold in high-hend stores to fashionistas. Consider this ad:

I dunno about you, but I can't remember ever seeing a mainstream company advertising these scarves for kids to wear to school and such, have you?

Stella gave me one for Christmas last year and I absolutely love it. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find any small ones I can wear under a shirt, just the big 'tactical' size. However, I did find a source of much the same wonderful cotton in other prints without the fringe. Anyone interested, PM me and I'll send you the link. I don't think it would be legal to post it here. Too much like spam, even though I have no connection with the company. And what kind of a company would want fashion endorsements from a bear, anyway?:D

Yea, blue! Yea, neckerchief/scarves! C'monnnnn . . . autumn!

Yeah, my big worry is the fashion styles coming out this year. Tell me what they will be in say...a thousand years and then I'd be interested. Sci-Fi, don't you just love it?

Yes please, Bear.
When I was first recovering from being microwaved and generally 'cooked', I was told in no uncertain terms NOT to go out in the sun unprotected, so I bought a neckerchief. Damned if I managed to knot the bloody thing.
How is it done - properly ?

In the pile of junk on one corner of my desk is a part pack of Amioderone. I had asked my cardiologist if I really needed all of the 17 drugs I was taking on a daily basis. ‘Well, you could drop the Amioderone,’ he said.

‘Because I don’t need it?’

‘Because it encourages sunburn,’ he said.

I like these boys. :)

Nice one, Sam.

And getting back to blue....here you go, Stella. Zoot-suity and in blue!

Damn, I want one in that blue windowpane the chick on the right is wearing. It looks so much like the one the Duke of Winsor wore so well.

Yes, yes, I'm just your basic ursine clothing maven . . .

Blue-on-blue! Very fashionista of you, VM! Given what I'm seeing in stores, it might not be too hard to find and copy that look. And you'd be very stylish and chic if you did :D

I cannot help but think that the one on the right has over-done it a touch.
After all, why does on e wear a polo neck with a shirt & tie ? And a waistcoat?
Is she really bloody cold (maybe it's the latest in out-door wear in Alaska, Norway or wherever).

And Bear, what nice shoes. Pity about the price. . . .

Isn't it, though? I don't buy genuine cordovan, can't afford it either so they will have to be burgundy calf. That won't be cheap but AE's last forever. They're like British bespokes in that the company, once you buy them, will recraft them as often as needed for as long as needed.

As for the young ladies in blue, I suspect they live in either Beijing or Seoul. Both places get damned bitter in the winter. Still, I agree. A turtleneck under a shirt and tie is just a bit much. Her friend is smarter with the overcoat.

Sacré Bleu!

When fashions for Fall/Winter 2013 were appearing I started this thread and noted that blue was in. I *thought* we'd remember this as the blue year, and by that I simply meant fall/winter 2013. Little did I know. Blue faded a bit as we went into 2014, but, boys and girls, it's back for spring and summer like a wave that pulled back and is now rushing in again. And its not just clothes that are big in blue this time around...

Everything is blue, blue, blue! We are going to be swimming in this color for spring and summer. A year of blue indeed!

So my old blue jeans are "in", then ?
More than in. De rigueur. The trending blue color is all related to blue jeans. From dark indigo to pale and faded.

This, from Bloomingdales, should give you an idea of how big a part blue jeans are playing in this blue trend:

My first response at seeing this thread title again was to suggest you get to a hospital...fast...that you are having a stroke.

But now that I see what it is...oh hum.

According to the gentlemens (or well-dressed bear's) sartorial bible, Dressing the Man, Flusser, 2002, blue is the most flattering color a dark-haired individual can wear. This explains the predominance of navy suits with blue dress shirts in the political/corporate world . . . at least in Europe and N. America. In Asia everyone in responsible positions wears black.

Scarves have been must-have items in Europe, particularly in France, for a very long time. For some reason they haven't caught on much in the US.... wonder why.

I'm still going to wear my blue blazer with my khakis. The only jeans I have are flannel or fleece lined for oudoors in the winter.

One more time with the scarves....

Scarves have been must-have items in Europe, particularly in France, for a very long time. For some reason they haven't caught on much in the US.... wonder why.
You misunderstand...scarves have been worn as much in the U.S. as anywhere else. Consider this example of American scarf wearing:

Very popular in the 50's. What I was talking about, however, was the popularity of a certain scarf style (middle eastern) and the way of wearing it. This is what is currently popular, and it makes the scarf so visible (as compared to it being just an accent, as in the scarf above) that we are more likely to notice it and, thus, think of it as part of 2013-14 fashions. This is the scarf and how it's being worn:

keffiyeh-palestinian-scarf.jpeg

It'd be like me saying "skinny jeans are in" and you saying "they've been wearing jeans in Europe for a long time..." Yes, but how about skinny jeans? Same here. This particular style of scarf is in vogue this year. It will be in vogue for a while, and then it will go away and some other style of scarf will come in. Maybe we'll go back to this:

Or this:

Or this:

rhoda-bandana5.jpg

All popular styles of wearing scarves over three different decades in the U.S. But for right now, we're into the middle east style scarf, both in type of scarf and in how it's worn. That is the fashion trend I'm talking about. And I take it as being international, not exclusive to the U.S.
