Bloomberg’s New York Bans Food Donations for the Homeless

NY Mayor Michael Bloomberg to the homeless: No soup for you (unless my municipal busybodies approve it):

Outlawed are food donations to homeless shelters because the city can’t assess their salt, fat and fiber content, reports CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.

Glenn Richter arrived at a West Side synagogue on Monday to collect surplus bagels — fresh nutritious bagels — to donate to the poor. However, under a new edict from Bloomberg’s food police he can no longer donate the food to city homeless shelters.

It’s the “no bagels for you” edict.

“I can’t give you something that’s a supplement to the food you already have? Sorry that’s wrong,” Richter said.

The attitude here is, if the government doesn’t do it, it is not good and should not be done. And Bloomberg is fine with that:

Told that his administration recently enacted the policy, the mayor was Grinch-like.

“If they did in the past they shouldn’t have done it and we shouldn’t have accepted it,” Bloomberg said.

Richter said that over the years he’s delivered more than two tons of food to the homeless. He said Mayor Bloomberg is eating away at his ability to do good.

So what becomes of church and community food pantries? Surely New York has a few of those. Is Bloomberg’s food police regime cutting them off from all work with the city to help the homeless?

It would have been hilarious if Bloomberg had run for president and then failed miserably. He deserves more than one massive public humiliation for the statist nonsense he has been behind as mayor.

Political correctness – stranger than fiction. This is basically saying there is no need for such food if one can entertain such abstract cultural conceits.

Meanwhile dying Somalians can only scratch their heads in wonder at this, food eating contests and the world’s longest tuna sub while Chef Ramsey throws away entire pans of food. I thought we’d reached some kind of ceiling on pure idiocy in America but it just gets worse. I hope someone calls for this guy’s firing. Him and Lovie Smith can compare notes on stupidity.

If they would just remove the ball bearing from the wheels on the shopping-carts that the homeless use, think of all the extra calories they would burn pushing it.
