The Blood Feud had lasted for Millenia. neither side had an advantage over teh other and they both knew it. But their pride and arrogance kempt them fighting. The Tanar'ri and the Ba'atezu, locked in combat since creation were at a standstill. Neither would give any ground, and neither could take any either.
The Tanar'ri, or demons, had a societal system that awarded accomplishment more than breeding. Though one could only rise so far on accomplishment alone. Archdemons ruled mercilessly, and drove their subjects into a frenzy when the time came to fight.
The Ba'atezu, or devils, had a very strict caste based system. One was born into their place and would never leave it. Pitfiends were teh ultimate power among them, and they weilded power with an iron fist.
They fought over the rulership of Baator, Hell, and would not stop until they had succeeded. But they needed something to tip the balance. Fighting had slowed over the last million years, dwindling to minor skirmishes and raids. Both were looking to the planes, trying to find something to use in their favour. That is when they found exactly what they needed. Almost simultaneously.
That something was Humanity. A weak race that was plagued with short lives and large ambition. Greed and envy ran rampant upon them. They were the perfect tool. Both Tanar'ri and Ba'atezu saw them for the perfect weapon. The only problem was using them as such.
One hundred years have passed since the discovery of Humanity, and the Blood feud continues, with human slaves and warriors to swell the ranks of each side. The Ba'atezu had taken to breeding humans, raising them as slaves. The Tanar'ri took more delight in abducting them and breaking them to their will.
The balance of power has been destroyed. The only question now was: Who would win?
OOC: People familiar with D&D will recognise the Tanar'ri, Ba'atezu and Baator. And perhaps the Blood Feud as well. I'm not sure if I have the details about each side right, but it's unimportant. Feel free to join in. Play a human, Devil or demon. It's up to you.
