I am unclear as to what particular hosters are allowing and not allowing.

If someone could point me to a blog hoster that allows erotic fiction to be posted, can you let me know please

You could check out Remittance Girl's blog, remittancegirl.com. I'm not sure who she works with to host it, but probably wouldn't be hard to find out. Also, I know that at blogspot they allow some, as a number of blogs I've checked out there give a warning that there may be adult content.

Blogger, Dreamwidth, wordpress blogspot-- all of them allow erotic content, even porn up to a point.

tumblr allows graphic porn images but sucks as a writing vehicle.

I looked through all the wording of those things but they dont just say "you can do this shit" they have to do all fricking assy..

thanks for the help. I have gone with wordpress :)

Yes wordpress will allow it, for now anyway until someone complains in a British tabloid anyway:D

It's tucked away in a maze of little FAQs, but for what it's worth, here's Dreamwidth's policy: http://www.dreamwidth.org/support/faqbrowse?faqid=63

"We're committed to the ideals of free speech and diversity. You can read our Diversity Statement, but we think a part of it bears repeating here: be you atheist or Zoroastrian, author or zoologist, you and your opinions are welcome here.

We're bound to obey the law, and sometimes this will mean we'll need to remove certain content. We'll only do this when necessary, and we'll explain why whenever we do. But we won't place limits on your creativity based on what's deemed "normal" or "comfortable"."

Easiest thing to do is buy a domain name for $10 and get a cheap hosting package and set up your own website so you post what you like (beware obscenity laws though).

I use these guys http://certifiedhosting.com/unlimited-web-hosting/ you can get a site up for as little as $3.95/month and you can install wordpress from the control panel.

Sure it costs you a little but your not being hamstrung by anyone else's rules. You're making your own.

What obscenity laws are there as pertains to writing?

I don't think they apply directly to writing, but content in general and its the usual suspects, under age sex or any type of child pornography, beastie, possibly incest although I am not sure on that one.

Thanks for the link. I am trying to set up a new website.

I currently go through yahoo and their price is about the same ($11.95 per quarter) but....

I no longer trust them. Any time I send an e-mail that discusses my writing and I mention my content in detail I get the "verification" block to type in the letters. Big brother is watching and once I set up my new website and e-mail I am leaving them behind.

I don't think its an "obscenity law" issue (I'd like to see examples of such laws). It's a invitation for scrutiny of your life for possible illegal activity that goes far beyond writing (use of images, yes. But that's different from writing) and public revealing of your sexual preferences/activities that you might not like to have shared with the world.

So, interested in seeing what these obscenity laws about what you write and manage to get someone to publish are.

I have used http://ipage.com without any trouble and it's cheap. Fairly reliable, too.

One good thing about selfhosting your wordpress blog is the plugin organize_series, which allows you to link your posts together regardless of chronology. This plugin, alone, is what made me fall in love with wordpress platform. It turns your blog into a real fiction archive.

It's not available at wordpress.com, the hosted blog site.

I'm not quite sure what you are getting at here.

Are you talking about the e-mail issue or what gets posted to a web site?

I'm quite unsure what you are asking. I'm discussing the claimed existence of obscenity laws directed at writing.

What I was saying is they are not directed specifically at writing, but in general as in images, writing, content in general.

A web site is different than publishing in that even though the site is yours it is being hosted by a company and they have a right to deem something obscene and mainly for CYA

for example Yahoo hosts web sites. If they found out a site they hosted featured child pornography they could wipe it and say it violated the obscenity terms.

That's my basic understanding of it because I am sure it has a lot more bells and whistles than that.

It comes down to where you live and what your laws are. Writing is not against obscenity laws but writing about certain things can be. Publishing those stories of an ultra extreme nature on a website is risky. You may never get into trouble or the cops could come after you.

Of course if you're just going to publish stories that would be OK here, then you'd be fine (but I'm no lawyer so don't quote me).

I've used this service for about 3 years and they're very good. Always help me fix my sites when I wreck them too.

Well here the site would be responsible I suppose.

But I have become increasingly paranoid with what I do on the net that can be tied directly to me especially under this "regime"

I collect knives and assorted medieval weapons and will no longer buy anything on line even through e-bay. I also collect books on witchcraft and the occult and as great as a source the net is I no longer buy them directly, if I can;t drive there to get it, it can stay there.

I don't need the FBI profiling me.

Sadly it maybe too late. The intelligence services have been monitoring the internet for many years now and have techniques that go beyond our mortal understanding. So who can say for certain what the FBI knows about us. Probably more than we'd like.

That's good to know because unless my wife is helping me with it, I can wreck a site pretty damn quick:eek:

If you use wordpress it's hard to wreck. A very intuitive content delivery system you can use as a blog or as a site, or as both.

What laws? You have obscenity laws on writing where you are? Maybe you can cite them for us?

As far as I know, China and Singapore are pretty much the only places where you can't write pretty much what you want and publish it if you can find a venue that will accept it--and if they don't accept it, it isn't because there is any law against writing obscene material; it's because they either find it offensively themselves or they don't want to face the backlash from people who find it offensive. That doesn't mean there's a law against writing it or making it public, if you can.

This differs from publishing images. And those are underage laws if you post images of an actual underage person. But you can write about underage sex to your heart's content most everywhere on earth. You just are going to get your life scrutinized and hassled if you are caught doing so (or you might get a Pulitzer Prize).

You have to be pretty important to them for them to bother to look into that huge glop being monitored on a specific hunt on you.
