Also strikes me as being a bit like 'Day of the Triffids', and I seem to recall an HG Wells story also based on that old saying, 'in the land of the blind, the one eyed man is king'.

It's actually quite a brilliant idea, with a lot of possibilities. Freed of the responsibilites of civilization, the protagonist would be able to take advantage of the situation (and of the women) with virtual impunity. Or, being of a more heroic bent, he could take on the role of saviour, and thus earn the love (and lust) or at least one of the women he's had occasion to save from an uncertain fate in this new world.

If he turns villian, he might just discover to his eventual horror that blindness is not the paralyzing curse he imagines, and the people he has exploited arrange a suitable revenge upon him (recalling the HG Wells story, which was also turned into a short movie teleplay if I remember correctly).

There may be reasons why this situation has resolved, and our more heroic character may uncover a hidden plot or conspiracy to enslave the suddenly disadvantaged populace.

I'm guessing there must be at least a few stories already in which the main female character is blind. For someone who's main sense is touch rather than sight, discovering and exploring one's lover with nothing but the probing touch of one's fingertips is inherently a very erotic and intimate situation.

Interesting, but I think the story would be more erotic if the main character was blind. If it's written with the only seeing person as the protagonist, then it's just a normal sex story with the antagonist being blind.

If the hero himself was blind, then it could lead to more erotic descriptions of sex (ex. "He then reached out, his hands tracing lines and patterns down soft, smooth skin," etc). Otherwise, it's just "His blind partner sucked his cock, blah blah blah."

Sounds alright, but I am more interested in the idea of translation. I assume you speak Portuguese, because of Jose Saramago. If you write it in English, I could probably help you translate the sentences that don't flow correctly to something more like American English literature. I know some Spanish, and if you know Spanish, I could probably translate most of it, while consulting you for certain words. But I don't know Portuguese, and it's a story I don't want to write myself because I can't really bring anything to the idea.

It has a lot of potential, but I would only want to translate it.
