I looked mournfully at the pile of clothes laying on my bed that was slowly growing larger with each article of clothing I tried on. "What was I thinking...letting Andrew talk me into a blind date?" I groaned. I grabbed my cell phone and quickly dialed Andrew's number. He picked up after one ring.
"Leila, why are you calling me? You have to be at the beach in ten minutes!" he said as soon as he picked up.
"Andrew, I'm having a clothing issue." I said frantically.
"The blue halter with the white skirt. Slightly dressy, yet easy to remove." he answered playfully.
"Andrew, stop. How do you even know if she's gonna like me, let alone sleep with me?"
"Oh, I know. Now get dressed and get to the beach. I've got everything set up. Bye, babe." and he hung up.
I quickly got dressed in what he had told me- a white calf-length skirt with blue and purple embroidered flowers and a bright blue halter top that matched my eyes almost perfectly and gave a little cleavage to my mid-sized breasts. My wavy black hair hung in a loose braid down to the middle of my back and a few stray curls framed my face. I opened my purse and threw in only the necessities- chap stick, my cell phone, and a tooth brush. Wishful thinking, I guess.
On the way to the beach, I wondered again what the hell I had been thinking when I accepted this date. I didn't know a thing about the girl, except that she was, of course, a female. I wasn't even sure how much Andrew had told her about me.
When I arrived at the beach, I looked around and headed towards the first signs of life I spotted. Coming closer, I could see how much work Andrew had put into this and knew there was no way I wasn't going to make this the best possible date that I could. I slipped off my sandals and sat on the blanket he had laid out, tucking my tanned legs underneath me. A picnic basket was laid out with an array of Chinese take-out inside, still hot, a six-pack of wine coolers, and a little box marked "Dessert". "Well," I thought, "Let's just hope she's low maintenance when it comes to food..."
