Katniss Jones was a young woman that knew what she wanted in life, and would reach her goals because she was pig headed that way. She is almost 20 years old and has been out of school two years earlier, she lost her parents a few months back due to someone who got drunk, went behind the wheel and hit someone in his drunken stupor. Only thing that came out of the crash was her parents died instantly, sadly she wasn't so lucky. She ended up breaking four of her ribs in the accident and took her a long time to heal. She became withdrawn with no family and really no friends, which was due to skipping so many grades. But Kat does have a brain in her head, she understands life better then most people. Even the oldest of people, but she poured all her heart into her music and has had her job as a bar singer for two years, all the music she sings was all music she had created over the years.

Her life was about to change however, because going to work she would do her job no question. But when she got up to the stage to start her singing, she slid by a gentleman she had never seen before, it appeared he was with some other guys. Talking about what ever it was that guys talked about, but everyone went quite when she got up on that stage, facing everyone that was in the room. Her eyes searched the audience and noticed the guy was looking up at her and his friends were quite. For some odd reason she got nervous and had no idea why she was feeling this way. She heard the music start up so she closed her eyes and managed to get rid of the nervousness. And finally she was able to begin and she sang her song beautifully. Her emotion could be seen easily as she belted out parts of the song. The most emotional bits she bent down a little placing her free hand against her stomach.

When the song ended she panted softly and looked up seeing people standing up giving her a standing ovation due to how good she was. She walked up to the bar to sit on the stool and got some water to try and relax herself, she didn't notice him coming to her, the closer he came the more she could smell his cologne. Sighing softly she heard the other sing that was there, She wished she could be content but sadly life never let her be like that.

Her Song

George was having a rough stretch. Life had been good for the first 42 years, but year 43 was tough. His only child had moved out in the fall, and that's when a 20 year marriage fell apart. Nothing he did was right, he was unable to make his own decision without backlash and sex? He almost forgot what that was.

The divorce papers were filed, he has moved into his own trendy downtown condo and is trying to put his emotional life back together. He has been a bit of a shut in until one night a few longtime friends basically showed up unannounced and forced him to come out. He wasn't happy but figured why not?

George had no idea how he was going to meet someone new. Everyone his age seemed uptight, and he needed fun. But everyone younger seemed too immature for his liking.

But this trendy spot brought a new light. He soaked up the ambiance and when the new singer hit the stage his jaw dropped. Katniss was her name and the moment she walked on stage he was in awe. She was stunning. Obviously younger, but always what he envisioned perfection to look like.

Then she sang. Her angelic voice put him in a trance. He was hanging on every word she sang, and he almost felt empty when the song ended. When he saw her walk to the bar, he noticed his scotch was gone and he needed a refill.

He got bold enough to walk up next to her. After ordering another double, he caught her eye. She turned and smiled his way, which made his heart skip a beat.

"Uh, hi, I just wanted to say you sounded amazing. I never heard someone sound so good on stage, and your voice is just as beautiful as your eyes."

He was shocking even himself. He had never been this brave or bold before, but he wanted nothing more than to be in her presence and let her know just how he felt.

Kat sang for herself more then the customer since she only sings her own music, once in a blue moon if requested she would do songs not written by her. She was raised all her life to be humble, grateful loving and respectful. That and she honestly didn't have a mean bone in her young body. She heard a gentlemen beside her clear his throat and in turn she turned her head. Her stood a man she knew was no more then forty five. She was good at guessing someone's age, she never had friends growing up. At the age of eight she was mature then most men in their life time, which does not say much for the guys. He was rather handsome, Kat never dated so she was still "Untouched". With her eyes locked onto his, she heard what he said and made note with how he was tripping himself up as he spoke. In that moment she wished she could actually stop or slow time down, but sadly that was impossible.

She had never had anyone come up to her to tell her they loved the music before. And since she was kinda timid and shy, and with the fact no guy ever gave her a compliment before she was blushing bright red. She looked down trying to hide the fact she was bright red, but her face just got hotter and hotter. Till finally she looked back at him, and again their eyes met. Kat didn't know what the hell to say, she didn't want to come off as blunt, rude or any other negative ways. Taking a sip of her water she took a second to respond, and when she put the glass back down on the table in front of them and nodded. She had to clear her own throat because she had a feeling he noticed the shyness. In that moment it felt like she was more shy then she was. But she sat back putting one leg over the way, in a lady like fashion. Letting out a soft sigh she finally found the words to express a grateful attitude.

"Thank you that's very sweet of you, I'm sure you will notice but I have never gotten a compliment on my music or myself for that matter." She extended her hand out for him to shake. "My name is Katniss Jones, and its a pleasure" She smiled.

George saw her shyness. He loved it. He could barely find the words to speak, so knowing such a young, beautiful, talented lady like her was flustered put him at ease as well. Her speaking voice was more angelic than her singing. He was entranced. He hung on every word.

He reached back and shook her delicate hand. "George. George Thompson." Her hand felt so tight in his. It was soft, dainty, and it gripped in the same shyness that her words expressed.

"I'm sorry about the eyes comment. I ... well ... I'm fresh out of a relationship and sort of forgot how to speak to a woman." He chuckled nervously. "I didn't mean to sound like some creep. I just loved the song. It was beautiful, and I could tell it was from the heart."

It was then that George realized he was still holding the handshake. It was subconscious at first, but now he didn't want to let go. He looked her straight in those beautiful eyes as he spoke. He was lost in them, and there was nowhere else he wanted to be.

"Do you perform every week? I'd love to see you again. I mean ... perform again. I'd love to hear more."

He gazed at her. Was he flirting? He wasn't sure. He was never a flirted, so he didn't know. He met his wife through mutual friends, so he never had to break any ice. That was always tough, but he had done it. Is this what it felt like to be free and bold?

Kat didn't know how to act in front of an older man, she didn't wanna appear like some stupid kid. She may have been only twenty but she had a lot of grace and understanding. Which was something that she took seriously. Katniss had been through a bunch of different shit in her life, but so hasn't other people. And sometimes the other people have it far worse then you do, ignorance was like a virus because a virus can divide and conquer with its tactics. Biting her lip she heard the question and thought for a second. "Once in a while I will be here all day, but the next three days I have two longs so if you have any songs you would like to hear let me know, if I know it which is most likely going to be the case, I don't mind. I am here for two hours every day accept for the weekends, because I usually stay longer" She felt how he made her feel, it was a feeling she had never felt before.

As she talked, Heorge knew her hand was still in his. Did she know it and not want to let go either. George didn't know, but he knew he was going to maintain contact as long as possible.

"I am sure anything you sing will be amazing," he said. "I just want to hear more and more of your voice."

George was smitten and he knew it. It had been ages since he felt this way. But what would this young beauty want with an old guy like him? But she was responding to everything he said. He wasn't sure what would happen, but he wanted to find d out.

"I'll tell you what, can I buy you a drink and discuss some songs I may want to hear?"

He put the ball in her court. It was either time for "go away, old man," or reassurance that this beauty was indeed into him as well.

It didn't take Kat long to know what she wanted, looking at the bartender she silently sighed and had a feeling this was going to be a nice relationship. She picked her drink which was a long island iced tea, she watched as the bartender made up her drink. Looking up at him she nodded and asked for her bag which the bartender was holding, just to make sure she kept all her shit. And once it's in her lap she relaxed and put her trust into a stranger, and didn't know why. "What's your favorite song or singer?" Kat asked wanting to get to know the man she was talking to, she didn't know what all to say since she was nervous.

"I Keep everything no matter the song"

The moment she ordered a drink, George struggled to not smile too wide. He was so excited this young beauty had decided to stay and talk, but he didn't want to seem eager or creepy.

"It's so hard to pick just one," George said. "I mean, I love Motown like the Supremes, Joplin, , that R&B style of Mary J or others, I can get into some Carrie Underwood if I've had a few shots. Basically if it isn't some overproduced pop song and you can tell it comes from the singer's heart, I'm loving it."

George was lost in his conversation. He kept droning on about musical artists. His varied interests, his hatred for Taylor Swift. It all kept pouring out so naturally. All this stuff he never shared during his marriage flowed freely.

"I'm not a big download music guy, so I'm that guy who still buys CDs. You'd laugh at how different my collection is. It doesn't fit one style or genre. You should come see it. It's pretty funny."

George just realized what he'd done. Was that an invitation? It wasn't supposed to be. But it sure sounded like one. He suddenly stumbled over his words again.

"I mean ... well ... ya know ... not that I'm inviting the beautiful singer I just met to my place. I just ... um ... meant ... "

He froze. Crap, why is meeting people so hard? Why am I so worried about this? I'm sure she didn't think it was meant that way. Now you're making it weird.

"I'm sorry," George continued. "I'm in the middle of a divorce, and talking to a beautiful woman I just met at the bar is something new to me. I haven't done this in 20 years."

When she was given her drink she watched how he was reacting, it seemed like he was having as much trouble if not more she was talking to someone. She heard what he said with the invitation she couldn't help to giggle a little bit. She found it very sweet he was tripping up she found it rather sweet. When he started to go on who he liked or didn't like, she was thinking of a bunch of different things for Kat was very talented and could even sing in different languages. There was one song she never had the guts to do in front of everyone, because she didn't want to appear desperate but she sucked on her lip and was running the idea around in her head. Which down the road would mean she was in for one hell of a headache. But George was very kind and she understood where he was coming from.

Kat was going to be up in another minute or two, she was relaxing between songs and placed her hand on his. Showing that she understood him and there wasn't going to be any issue. "I have one more song and I think I know what I am going to pick" She chuckled a little. "If you don't mind waiting till after my next song, id like to discuss this if you don't mind?" She patted his hand and she went right up on the stage and closed her eyes. She picked her head up and turned to her left as a younger looking guy came out with a violin and handed it to her. She looked at the violin and tucked it right under her jaw and didn't know what was going to happen, if she would sink or swim. With a small wink to someone off stage she heard music begin to play, it was the sound of someone winding up a doll.

Then was heard a little bell where even the bell was part of the song, closing her eyes as she blocked out the fact tons of eyes were on her. And right when she was meant to she began to sing and then slowly began to introduce her violin. And on the correct beat she shot up on her tip toes. She was singing, playing her violin but also the ability to move like a ballerina. Singing and dancing and playing an instrument. Her heart was racing and finally on que the stage fell dark and silent. With the darkness and the quite she was afraid she had really done it, but she saw some people stand up and start to clap, and those clapping inspired even more people to at least clap. When the spot light hit her face she smiled, since she looked at George through all of it, she smiled panting softly and pretty soon went up to him and she went back to drinking, she didn't know if he liked it. Though he seemed into the song.

Her Song - Shatter Me

George rejoined his friends when Katniss went on stage. He was receiving a lot of flack from his friends. Most was playful. "So, all it took was one night out for you to pick up the babe on stage?" One friend replied. "Well someone thinks he's hot shit" said another.

George did his best to downplay the situation. He was smitten with this young beauty, but he couldn't quite explain it to his friends. He didn't want to. He wanted to leave them behind and take Katniss back to his place so they could talk somewhere quiet.

The music started and George was locked in. He watched Katniss, and he could tell she was opening up. She had more nerves, like she was trying something she'd wanted to but never had the nerve. The violin kicked in and, of course, she was amazing. The dancing? Remarkable. The singing? As angelic as always.

George really listened to the words. Was this Katniss opening up to him? He could feel some of her pain through the song and wanted to be there to hug her and tell her everything will be OK.

The music stopped and George just froze. He was in awe and unsure how to respond. He wanted to jump on stage and kiss this girl. But he started to clap. As some stood, he leapt to his feet. When he did, he saw Katniss look his way. She flashed a nervous smile, and he smiled back, mouthing the word "amazing" at her. He nodded toward the bar and lifted his eyebrows toward her as if to ask "another drink?"

Nodding she ordered a glass of white wine and she sat down sipping it and sighed softly. Her eyes scanned the room and noticed some people smiling at her and it felt amazing. She had been hurt before and the funny thing was, she made up music from what she hears in the club. She never names name's of course but hopes that those she writes about, she loves giving a voice to the under dog. "My songs that I write? When I come here needing to write a new song, I will listen to the people around me. When I find a connection to the struggle of that person, I seem to be able to read people like no one else could." She could see a look of confusion on his face and she blushed giggling a little bit. Closing her eyes she sat in the silence for a good five minutes and finally she was hearing a fight four booths from them.

"For instance, do you see that blond that is with the middle aged guy with jet black here? " She motioned her head so he could see them and hear what they were saying, within those silent five minutes they both heard the story of the poor blond. Finding out that her fiance was cheating on her with her so called best friend. People on stage where just playing music with no lyrics or anything, but a young guy began to play the drums. And she began to pat out more for the song and she closed her eyes. And she began to sing a melody that she was mixing with the song they were hearing as she sang softly.

Song On The Spot

This is the hardest part
When you feel like a fake
All that you have has become unreal
Collapsing and aching
All I want, all I want is right here
But love don't live here anymore

(Love is dead, love is gone, love don't live here anymore)
And love don't live here anymore
(Love is dead, love is gone, love don't live here anymore)

I am all that you think of me
When you're beside her, inside her
It must be so hard for you to deny it and hide it
All I want, all I want is right here
But love don't live here anymore
(Love is dead, love is gone, love don't live here anymore)

She didn't know why she was being so open to a guy she just met, she wasn't drunk exactly but was tipsy that much she knew. When the song stopped and she blushed feeling very expose. She watched the couple fight as she sang through and the way couple was, her song was rather fitting she thought. The song ended when the music stopped and the girl was long gone.

"I use experiences that I myself go through or experiences of others if the feeling I am getting is strong enough"

George was in awe. "That's amazing. I usually see people argue, watch and laugh. I never realized how much music can be based on just what's around you."

George's friend came up and said he was leaving. "I'll be right back, Katniss," he said before walking toward the door with his friend. They shook hands, and George made his way back.

"My friends are heading elsewhere. I told them I'd just grab an Uber home because I'd rather talk to this amazing woman I just met."

George tried to hide his schoolboy grin. He was infatuated.

"Do you have any more songs? Otherwise, I'd love to go somewhere more quiet and learn more about you and your craft, Katniss."

This was it. George was putting it out there. She'd either give him a polite brush off, the "back off old man" brush off ... or maybe, just maybe, take him up on his offer.

He subconsciously put his hand on top of her hand on the bar. "I really would like to get to know you better, Katniss."

When he offered to take her some place else she didn't know what to say or how to say it, but before she knew it she showed interested and told him to lead the way. Once she finished her second drink she walked out with him, it was a beautiful night and her eyes looked up at the moon. Smiling she always thought that the moon was as beautiful as the sun. Wondering what it would be like to be on the moon, Kat had no idea if he wanted to go to his place, her's or some place in between? She noticed the entrance to the park and smiled, she loved central park it was beautiful and it was always busy. Sitting on the bench she cleared her throat and sniffed the air. It was crisp and perfect.

"I have a lot of different songs when things move me I take a mental note" She said simply. "I have been writing music since I was 12. Music was always my getaway place for my mind to hide in.

George wanted nothing more than to take her to his new condo. But he also didn't want to scare her away. He wanted to be alone with Katniss, but he also wanted her to feel at ease. The park made sense. It wasn't too late so there were still several people around, but they could have a private conversation.

They say on a bench and, as they looked up at the stars, had a conversation. George kept asking g questions about her music, wanting her to never stop talking. Well, he did want her to stop long enough to kiss him, but he wasn't pressing his luck.

Katniss opened up to George and he was so glad she trusted him this way. Then he asked about her parents ... uh oh. The moment he asked, he could see her demeanor change. Something was hurting her. He wanted to know and yet he didn't. When he saw a tear rolling down her cheek he caressed her face and wiped it with his thumb.

As he wiped the tear, he saw her eyes. The tears welled up, but they didn't hide just how beautiful they were. He held his hand on her cheek as their eyes gazed at each other. He bit his lip, unable to move away or closer. He was just lost in her.

She didn't mind talking to him he was a rather nice guy and hoped there would be something that grows between them. She answered all his questions with a grin on her face, but it was then he brought up her parents. Her head slowly went down and bent over a little. Her elbows were resting on her thighs and knew this question was going to be asked if not now later. She rather rip the bandied off now then do it down the line. Her eyes were closed as she fell into her memories of that night, she could still hear the horn going off nonstop from the car her dad drove. The sound of the horn still plagued her badly, she was trapped in the memory of their deaths. When she opened up her eyes, she wasn't at the park with George. Looking at her hands they were all cut up and she saw the scene and clenched a fist. When she felt his finger against her she looked up at him "It's alright you didn't know, they were killed in a car crash. A woman hit our car going 50 miles in a 30 mile area and she was drunk."

Sitting up straight she sighed a little shaking the sadness away and crossed one leg over the other.

George saw the vulnerability in her tear filled eyes. He wanted to console her but not make it seem like a creepy old man hitting on her. He leaned forward and kissed her forehead as he still held her face.

"Katniss thank you for sharing. I'm sure that's not something easy for you to do. You can share as much or as little as you wish." He kissed her forehead again and pulled back, looking in her eyes.

Watching her cross her legs, he noticed just how shapely they were. He was so lost in the beauty of her face he never really looked her over. He didn't want to. He was so focused on this beautiful young face that he didn't take the time to sexualize anything else about her.

Slowly sliding his hand from her cheek, George rested it on her thigh. He didn't squeeze or rub, just let it sit there softly as he looked in her eyes.

Kat listened to George and had no idea what to say to him, locking her eyes on him. In that moment she felt calm and felt the love in his eyes even though they didn't know one another. Her heart beating he could have easily tried to touch her or kiss her yet he didn't. The way he could have acted and didn't made her respect him. Looking up to the stairs over their heads and sighed closing her eyes almost like she was praying. It was kinda nice to not be alone when she feels like her world is crumbling down to her feet.

"I will be fine....that is life one way or another"

George looked her deep in the eye. "Katniss, at the fear of you slapping me, running away or crying, I need to admit something."

George took a deep breath. This was his moment. It was time to put things on the line.

"Katniss, it's been years s I'm nice I've felt this way, but ... but ... I really like you." He gripped her thigh a bit firmer but not hard. "I know our age difference is wide, but ... ya know ... I really couldn't care less."

He leaned in and gave her cheek a soft kiss. "I'm sorry if I'm being too forward, but I thought it needed to be said. I haven't been in this situation in years."

He kissed her other cheek.

"I hope you feel something to."

He leaned in, closed his eyes and neared her lips.

She never thought this would happen to her, the way he made her feel. He was being careful what he did or said which was something that she appreciated. Kat had never been with a guy, in school she was more of a nerd. She was beautiful in school but her being labeled a nerd and she had no boyfriends. Her heart was in her throat and smiled a little feeling his lips on her cheek. Swallowing hard she sighed softly. "I feel a connection, but I have never had a boyfriend so if your okay with taking it slow..?"

George was inches from her lips. He heard the hesitation and paused himself. He leaned closer and gave her a soft, gentle kiss on her lips then pulled back.

"Katniss, I will approach it any way you want. I just know having the chance to be near you is all I care about in this moment. You've opened up to me, and I am falling for you even more with every word."

He gave her another soft kiss on the lips then leaned back against the bench. He put his arm around her shoulder and smiled. He was living this. Did he want a fling? He thought he did. But no, he wanted this. The closeness, someone to be there for and someone to be there for him. Anything else would come later. For now, he was just enjoying a starry night with a beautiful, amazing lady.

Her face turned a brighter red when he kissed her, but the way he kissed her was soft and sweet. The kiss like a father kissing his daughter, he could have fully kissed her with passion but he held himself. She leaned into him as she looked up into the night sky, she sighed softly. As they sat there enjoying each other and the sky. "Do you like animals?" She asked out of the blue and looked at him, locking her eyes onto his and smiled. "I have a dog hopefully your not allergic but year she is protective" She said with a grin.

Even George could pick up on this clue. He smiled wide. "I love animals, especially dogs. I'd love to meet yours."

He stood and took Katniss's hand, helping her to her feet. He gave her a big hug and kissed her cheek. "I'd love to have a drink at your place, Katniss." He said

He wrapped his arm over her shoulder, pulled her close and walked off toward the entrance to the park, ordering an Uber as they walked. "Wjere should I say were going?"

She smiled at him and took his hand as he helped her up they began to walk funny thing was when he asked where they were going she motioned her head so he looked forward. It was a cute little brick home and she showed him inside, the second the door closed it was easy to hear her dog. She saw her dog and she stood up on her hind legs licking her.

"George this is my blue nose pitbull Birdie..." She grinned looking at him and the dog barked she took his hand and in her own lowered it and before anyone could say anything Birdie started to lick and whine.

"She likes you"

George smiled. He really liked Katniss and didn't want something like an angry dog to get in the way. George scratched the dog's head a bit then found a spot behind the ear. The dog leaned into George, accepting him.

George turned his eyes to Katniss. She was looking at her dog, smiling. When she realized George was smiling at her, she returned a caring smile. Their eyes met as George pet the dog. While petting Birdie, George made a move. He leaned to his side toward Katniss, inching closer to her lips.
