Former White House chief of staff: ‘Nonsense-spewing’ Sarah Palin to blame for ‘carnival-like’ GOP

A ccording to a former White House chief of staff, the GOP’s current dysfunctional state — that finds them unable to agree on a new Speaker of the House and watching outsiders Donald Trump and Ben Carson become their top 2016 presidential contenders — can be laid at the feet of Sarah Palin.

Writing for the Washington Post, former Obama administration chief of staff William M. Daley, said Republicans are reaping what they sowed when they fell under the spell of the former Alaskan governor during her vice presidential run in 2008.

Calling the current GOP primary “carnival-like,” Daley said the party had a chance to right itself after Palin’s “blatant lack of competence and preparedness” became apparent and contributed to the collapse of the McCain campaign.

“What’s critical is that substantive, serious Republican leaders either wouldn’t or couldn’t declare, before or after the election: ‘This is not what our party stands for. We can and must do better,’” Daley wrote.

Now they are close to right.

“Now that tiger is devouring the GOP establishment,” Daley wrote. “Party elders had hoped new presidential debate rules would give them greater control. But they are watching helplessly as Trump leads the pack and House Republicans engage in fratricide.”

PA Supreme Court candidate suggested lesbians provoke men into shooting them by ‘fondling each other’

What a Dick!

Republican lawyer’s candidacy for the Pennsylvania Supreme Court is under scrutiny after an examination of his record showed that he promoted a “gay-panic defense” in the case of a man who shot two lesbians.

The Philadelphia Daily News reported on Monday the state Supreme Court candidate Mike George’s defense of Stephen Roy Carr suggested that the two lesbians “might’ve brought the shooting on themselves.”

After Carr killed 28-year-old Rebecca Wight and shot her girlfriend, Claudia Brenner, in 1988, George set out to “get the local folks talking more about the lesbianism than the murder.”

The American Bar Association has called on states to ban the use of the “gay-panic defense.” California became the first state to do so in 2014.

Ryan has 200 votes as of today, and Webster is pulling out. Where's all the chaos you talk about?

It is coming to the HoR, give it a few days when the Govt needs to be funded.

This is interesting, Daley is the son of the notorious Richard Daley, former mayor of Chicago and probably the most crooked politician in the country.

Corrupt pols are the effect, not the cause. A dysfunctional political system is the cause. USA has almost 2.5 centuries of make-do fixes piled on like old scabs. Throwing out the crooks without fixing the system out only makes room for more sophisticated crooks.

And the GOP got setup as they are by good old Tricky Dicky (PULL OUT, DICK,LIKE YOUR FATHER SHOULD HAVE) with his Southern Strategy a half-century ago that turned the party into a club for ignorant honkys. Palin is just a prominent symptom of the party's general mental-moral breakdown.

Welcome to GOP fantasyland where ignorance is bliss and delusion is mandatory.

Christmas came early for Obama. So youre wrong about Ryan and wrong about the budget and wrong about the debt. I think youre a clueless moron.

Actually, Hizzoner wasn't personally crooked. He lived modestly in a bungalow in Bridgeport all his life with his wife and children.

What he did do was take a very laissez-faire attitude to corruption in Chicago politics, but really, that's just good tactical sense.

Ignorant honkys that won 40+ states all over the nation in every election for 20 years with the exception of 1976? (And nearly even won that, WITH Watergate and the pardon? Gerry Ford was hardly a charismatic personality or an LBJ/Nixonian style political genius. Not to mention it was Carter who picked up the "ignorant honkies" in the South-go look at the map.) Sorry, time to bust the Narrative.

No, the developments that led to Palin types taking over the GOP are more recent and lie in the 90s, due to a combination of the Cold War ending, Bill Clinton taking back the center, and the GOP becoming a more legislatively branch. It led to some very unhealthy trends in GOP politics, including taking foreign policy advice from ex-Democrats as neocons while guys like Baker and Snowcroft were eliminated from power. Combined with the Clinton Administration taking over in the executive branch from Bush Senior, this meant we had no overarching strategic thought in foreign policy anymore. Meanwhile, in domestic policy, the free-market trends that started with Reagan began to get out of control due to the fact that the GOP's main thrusts-foreign policy and domestic issues such as crime and state order-were either less relevant or coopted by Clinton. By 1994 as a result, you have Gingrich taking over the House.

Daley may have been crooked but he was never caught nor indicted, unlike dozens of politicians from Louisiana, New York and other bastions of good government.

If you were to indict Daley, you'd have to indict the whole city of Chicago's government.

Gerrymandered districts and disenfranchisement are wonderful devices. GOP candidates overall receive fewer votes but win more seats. GOP presidential candidates have not won a majority of votes since 1988. And yes, ignorant honkys believe the demonstrable GOP bullshit. Apparently voters get the government they deserve.

No. It was perfectly legitimate to be a hawk, to want to globalize your business, to want government to be less federalized, or to be religious. You don't win 40+ states by disenfrachisement and gerrymandering. And Bill Clinton won in the 90s by coopting GOP positions on crime, welfare, the economy, foreign policy, and by presenting a new image as a Southern, moderate Democrat. George McGovern he was not. Bill Clinton was the first guy to realize that alienating the electorate was a dumb idea.

Since the century ended, politics has polarized far more rapidly-it was polarized before then, but something accelerated. The position we are headed toward now is basically that of Europe, where you have a technocratic center-left party ruling with a populist counterreaction to that. Not desirable-look at the Front National in Paris. Especially since the USA has elements that bring out the worst in both sides. Demographics has also rapidly changed since 1992, let alone 1972.

You mean Dan Rotten cow skis.

Shit Jimmy, I set up a T-ball for you and Box, and you can't even hit it!

Who is in the White House? Who isn't even a US Citizen, supposedly?

Obama is from Chicago.

JFC, I'm not letting you play if you can't bat!

Can you name a place where the Cong. districts are gerrymandered or where living people are disenfranchised through gov. action? Inner cities usually run up huge majorities for Dem. candidates, so much so that the GOP often doesn't even bother to run more than a token candidate in them. The reasons for this are big city political machines and the fact so many residents of those cities are looing for handouts from the taxpayers.

Beginning with 1988, there have been seven presidential elections. The GOP won a majority in 1988 and in 2004. Dems won majorities in 2008 and 2012. That means either of the two major parties won majorities twice.
