It was the social event of the year, everybody who was anybody attended, and all the beautiful women participated. Pamela had finally relented to her friends begging her to join in on a night of fun for a good cause. The profits of the auction went to the city's Children's Hospital, a cause that was near and dear to her heart. She was stunning, smart and wore her heart on her sleeve, but had not allowed herself to get close to another man since the death of her beloved husband 7 years ago.

She smiled as she looked at the invitation, "Who the hell in their right mind is going to bid on a lonely widow?'

Rick sat on the Board of the Children's Hospital and his wife the Auxillary. For the first time in years she would not be joining him at the event, which was one of the very few things they still did and enjoyed together. It was her 30th year reunion at college, and all of her former sorority sisters would be there. However, this was the event of the year, and beyond his family's commitment, Rick's Investment Banking Firm was a lead sponsor of the event, and had purchased the front table. He had asked one of his men to emcee the main event which was an auction of some of the most beautiful and distinguished women in town.

The auction would have both single and married women and bidders, ages ranging from mid 20's to 50's. The entire event was more fun than anything, but the winning couples would dance together the remainder of the evening and then have a black tie dinner at the top restaurant in town later in the month. The event usually raised over a quarter of a million dollars and everyone was a good sport.

It would be odd attending without Lizzy, but a nice odd. To call their marriage strained was an understatement. They had stayed together for the children and their social standing. Divorce was also expensive and despite that their sex life had dwindled to near nothing, neither one of them had found a specific reason to move on. Lizzy no longer had a desire for sex with anyone, and Rick while craving that soft touch and sense of romance again, had resigned himself to the fact that he had no desire to reenter the meat market in the new age of Tinder, etc.

He enjoyed black tie events though, and his only hope was he might find a woman there whose husband hated to dance, and with whom he might enjoy having a willing and fun woman again in his arms...even if it was only a dance...

As Pamela sat at her dressing table, she looked in the mirror. The person looking back at her was still youthful looking, about 10 years younger than her friends. Her body was exquisite, perfect 36D breasts, tight round ass and curves in all the right places, not to mention beautiful, alluring hazel eyes. She had never participated in the auction, this was all new to her. Pam's late husband, Dr Edward Walsh had been Chief of Surgery at Children's Hospital and he had always tried to get her to join in on the fun. He had been taken away from her suddenly 7 years ago when he had fallen asleep at the wheel, coming home from work.

"What if some nice man actually does bid on me? What then? What do I do, what do I say?" Pam became overwhelmed at the thought of becoming romantically involved with a man again and considered not going at the last minute, but she was not a quitter by any means. Before she knew it, her maid Gwen called up to let her know that the limo had arrived. She said to herself on the way down, "You've got this."

Rick thought better of driving to the event, as he planned on enjoying himself. His firm covered limo service in the spirit of keeping everyone safe. He hopped into the car which already contained a few of his employees and their significant others, "I guess I am bacheloring it tonight", he said smiling. One of the women made a flattering comment about saving a dance for her, and off they went. Immediately upon arriving at the Country Club, he saw other members of the Board and shook hands, and kissed cheeks. Black tie events were always so fun, everyone dressed up and looking their best, bringing out their best social graces.

The women, particularly the veterans of several auctions, got a little competitive, seeing who might solicit the highest bidder. Innocent flirting ran rampant, and Rick moved to the line of the women who would be put up for auction tonight to thank them for being such good sports. In all 20 women would be put up for bid, and he slowly began to work his way down the line. Flashing his smile, and deep blue eyes, he flirted a bit, but he was truly thankful to these women. It could be embarrassing to put yourself out there like that, but it was all for a good cause. About halfway through he met a woman, somewhere between 35 and 45, he had never met her before. "Hello, I am Rick Thomassson, I am on the Board for this event. I just wanted to thank you for participating...I don't believe we have met..."

As the limo pulled up in front of the country club, Pam could feel the butterflies in her stomach, she sit back and sighed deeply.... She could almost hear Edward's voice in her ear, "Enjoy your life, my love. Get out there and live each day to its fullest." She smiled as the driver opened the door and offered his hand to help her out. As she walked inside, she spotted several people she knew from the board, as she exchanged hellos, hugs and kisses on the cheek she wandered through the room, her head held high and feeling confident.

Pam stood in a line of 20 women who would be participating in the auction this evening, most of them she knew, a few she did not. One particular woman Nancy Dougherty, she was convinced had an eye for her Edward at one time, not to mention several other doctors, she had quite the reputation. As the men started to introduce themselves, she felt herself start to feel more at ease. All of them, polite and such gentlemen, she smiled politely at them. The last one to introduce himself, took her breath away, he had the most amazing eyes she had ever seen...Very kind, yet intense, the kind she could get lost in. She offered her hand to him, "Hello, Mr Thomasson, it is a pleasure to meet you. My name is Pamela Walsh."

"Pamela Walsh?" Rick stood there for a minute looking into the beautiful woman's gorgeous hazel eyes, then he remembered. "Of course, my God, I am a so sorry. Your husband was highly, highly thought of, a true leader. HIs death was tragic, I am so, so sorry for your loss".

Rick felt extremely guilty, just moments before he had been a man looking at a beautiful, highly desirable woman, and he had been thinking of her in that way. He had almost flirted, he was a natural flirt, and he loved to see a striking woman smile and laugh to one of his jokes. He took her hand and kissed it, in the most gentlemanly and appropriate way he could. "I can't tell you how much I appreciate your willingness to support our cause and be here tonight. Your husband made an indelible mark on this institution, I think it would please him very much to know that you are here tonight. I am alone myself, I hope I will have the privilege of dancing with such an honored guest later in the evening".

Rick ended the line, but looked back at her to see her looking at him, a small tear in her eye. He hoped he hadn't made her sad, she was quite remarkable...

Pamela smiled when Rick recognized her name, but looked away when he gave his condolences, to try and hide the sadness in her eyes. "Thank you for your kind words, Mr Thomasson. Edward was an incredible asset to the hospital, not only was he the best surgeon, but he was humble and kind. Everyone he came in contact with, adored him." Pam spoke with pride about her late husband.

When Rick took her hand and kissed it, she felt something she hadn't felt in many years, almost as though he awoke something deep inside her. Her skin broke out in goosebumps....it also felt like there were instant sparks between them. Before leaving her to find his seat, he had asked her if she would save a dance for him later. "Mr Thomasson, it would be my pleasure to have a dance with you." Pam felt a tear slide down her cheek as he walked away, after wiping it away she looked towards him and he was already looking at her. She felt herself blush and she smiled at the incredibly kind, incredibly charming handsome man she had just met.

He had seen the goosebumps when he had kissed her hand. But what struck him most was the sense of pride she had when she spoke of her husband. It was nice to see, a bit old fashioned, which was simply charming. Despite his current marriage, he was a romantic, and he enjoyed and admired seeing couples who were truly in love.

He thought, what a loss that must be, a sense of wondering if you can ever recapture that magic. He made a vow to himself, "Pamela, the man who purchases time with you tonight will be kind and deserving, and if not, that man will be me.

Kissing her hand had struck a chord in hiim as well, she was just so, perfectly, feminine...her husband had been a lucky man...well, at least until the end

He was seated at the table with friends, but at the table directly across from him, he watched Pamela sit down, he smiled and winked, and he saw her blush and divert her eyes...truly charming

Pamela walked through the room looking for familiar faces, she ran into her friend Amelia Riley, Amelia was a pediatrician at Children's Hospital and a close friend. "Pam, you look absolutely stunning. I wouldn't be surprised if these men fought over winning you over this evening. As Pam and Amelia talked for a few minutes, her mind wandered back to that charming Mr Thomasson, there was just something about him that she wanted to get to know him. She wondered if he was married, as he wasn't wearing a ring.

It was nearly time for the bidding to begin, Pam went to her table to leave her things and get ready to go backstage. She looked up and saw Rick at the next table, he smiled and winked at her, she waved and smiled gracefully at him. As she began walking to the back, she couldn't get him off her mind. Pam shook her head, "Stop it Pam.... Don't even think about it," she thought to herself. All she could think about were those amazing blue eyes.....

Tommy from Rick's office was the auctioneer, and he was a natural, just the right combination of humor, and building energy into the auction. One by one the ladies were sold off, a beautiful young 24 year old daughter of one of the doctors who had been a cheerleader for the Florida Gators when for $20,000, Rick looked over at the purchaser, and was a little disturbed at the look on the buyers face, this was all supposed to be fun.

Finally, Pamela Walsh was introduced, she came on stage and did a little twirl and curtsy, and came up blushing. She was clearly not comfortable but was such a good sport. In Rick's mind, she was by far the most beautiful woman to have been on stage tonight, despite the fact that she was several years older than some of the young 20 somethings of earlier.

The bidding started at $1,000 and with more than a few bidding, quickly rose to $5,000. The Bill Campbell, Rick knew he had been her husband's rival, at least in Bill's eyes, shouted from the back, $10,000. He was drunk, and seemed to be saying something more than the intent of this program, he wanted to buy his former rival's woman. Rick didn't like this at all, and this was not what this woman deserved. $12,500 he called out, saw the look of appreciation in her eyes, and then looked at the back to see what the response would be...this was all for charity and he was not going to be outbid, certainly not by Bill Campbell

The moment Pam set foot on the stage, she felt a little uneasy, but she was a team player and it was for a great cause. She was a lot older than most of the contestants, at least 15-20 years older... Except Nancy Dougherty, Nancy was in her 50's. When the bidding began on her, she heard Dr Campbell drunkenly call out a bid. He had lost the promotion for Chief of Surgery to her late husband, he was a kiss ass and an arrogant jerk. He had slept with most of the nurses on the surgical floor and was known to have quite the reputation for being a womanizer.

She was thinking to herself, "Please don't let him be the one to be my highest bidder, it won't end well if he is." The last thing she wanted to do was spend an evening with Bill Campbell. When the charming Mr Thomasson outbid him, she looked straight at him and mouthed the words, "Thank you" and smiled. When the auctioneer helped her off the stage, she went directly to the bar and ordered a glass of champagne.

Rick watched the discussion and action behind him. “No Fucking way am I letting some rich banker outbid me. I have been waiting years for a night with that woman”. Rick turned and glared at the over served surgeon. He had friends at the table with the good doctor and they wuickly corralled him. He could hear them sating, “there is no way you can outbid him, and the last thing you need right now is pisding off a major benefactor”. No more bids were made.

Rick saw her mouth her thanks, but then scurry off to the bar. Her back was too him as he approached. He came up behind her and set a hand lightly on her back. He was laughing, “I see you are so thrilled that I purchased you, that you needed a good drink!”

As Pam walked towards the bar, she could hear Bill Campbell and his cronies making some sort of commotion.... What an asshole, he will never change, and there is no way she would ever be in his presence alone. After taking a big gulp of her champagne, she felt a hand on her back, turning to see who it was, to her delight, it was Rick. Pam placed her hand on his arm and smiled, "Mr Thomasson, I can't thank you enough, let's just say that Dr Campbell is not my favorite person. Him and my late husband were in the running for Chief and when Edward got it, he developed a chip on his shoulder... Mind you, he was always an arrogant bastard, but that's a different story.

She could feel herself warming up to this charming man, they made small talk and found out they knew many of the same people. " I'm sorry if I seemed so uncomfortable being up there, I don't like being the center of attention and this is all new to me. I'm more of a planner than a participant." She could not bring herself to look away from his intense blue eyes, they were almost hypnotic and awakening something deep down in her core.

Rick looked across at Dr. Campbell, “Yes, I know more of Bill, than I actually know him directly. His behavior is highly questionable to say the least. I worry the next scandal will be a result of his indiscretions....enough about him, let me get a drink and then we can have that dance.

Rick was a good dancer, and the evening was formal with waltzes and slower dances. Pam was light in his arms, and gracefully followed his lead, adding in her own touch of flair. They were having such fun, Rick felt guilty, as if he hadn’t been totally forthcoming. “Pam, you are a delightful companion, but I should tell you, I am married”. He looked into her eyes, they had real chemistry, chemistry that had left his marriage many years ago.

Pam and Rick exchanged stories about Bill Campbell for a few minutes while they finished their drinks, they both had a few laughs over some of them and just shook their head at the rest. Rick finished his drink and escorted her to the dance floor, most of them were waltzes and slow dances, he was a wonderful dancer. Pam loved to dance, her and Edward had taken ballroom dancing lessons before they were married, it was something she had always wanted to learn how to do. She felt content in Rick's arms moving around the dance floor, it had been too long since she had this much fun.

Pam looked at Rick, he seemed distant. She felt as if there was something he wanted to tell her, and sure enough he did.... he was married. Pam didn't respond right away, she asked quietly, " Oh...is she here with you tonight? Why aren't you dancing with her?" Pam could feel her stomach turn with disappointment, but she could feel the chemistry between them, she wanted to know more about this charming man.

The dancing was wonderful, she had obviously danced before and with a very good partner. She laughed as he twirled her, they even dipped. She was so fun, so lively, and so, so feminine and sweet.

"No my wife is not here tonight, she is away at her sisters. Pam, my wife and I have more, what you might call a professional marriage, this would be one of the few places where we might actually be together, the others would have been things involving our children, but they are basically grown now, so that is no longer all that frequent."

He smiled, but this was awkward. "So I am all yours tonight, if you want me, but I understand, if you would prefer to go find some nice single man".

Pam couldn't remember the last time she had so much fun, dancing, laughing, great company. She was blown away at what a wonderful dancer Rick was, she cringed at the thought that she could've been spending this evening with Bill Campbell, what a scary thought that was.

During one of their slow dances, Rick was explaining that his wife was out of town and not here with him tonight. He also told her that his marriage was more of a professional one. Did they not share any passion? Was the chemistry gone between them? If he were hers, she would never leave his side, she would shower him with, desire and passion 24/7 if he were hers."What in the world are you thinking wondering about that?", she thought to herself. She really was enjoying his company.

"Rick, I hate to break it to you, but the only single man here tonight is Bill Campbell and we both know he is not even close to being nice." She leaned closer to him and whispered in his ear, "You did win me for the night.... Sorry, you're stuck with me." Pam looked at him and smiled to let him know it was all good.

Rick looked around, "You may be right, well then stuck I am", he smiled and took her arm in his. "I can't tell you how long it has been since I have had this much fun. You are an amazing dancer, and a better conversationalist".

All of a sudden to of Rick's and his wife' better friends walked up. "So what is Lizzy up to now Rick, and does she know her husband purchased the most attractive widow in town as his date?" They were teasing but it was close enough to the truth, that it made the moment awkward. "Well what she doesn't know won't hurt her right? She is probably having more than enough fun with her old sorority sisters don't you think?" The all laughed, and then they moved on.

Rick wanted to get out of there, the dancing was winding down, but he didn't want the night to end. "I think the evening is ending here...is there any chance you might want to head out of here, go grab a drink...the night isn't over yet, is it?"

Pam laughed about Rick's comment about being stuck with her for the remainder of the evening, what a wonderful sense of humor he had. It had been so long since she had smiled and laughed as much as she had tonight, and she was enjoying every moment of it. When he took her arm in his, she felt sparks shoot through her body at his touch, she wondered if he experienced it too.

"Yes, it does seem to be dwindling down a little, doesn't it? I can't remember the last time I danced as much as I did tonight, and what a great dancer he was," Pam smiled. "I would actually love to join you for a drink, is there a place you had in mind?

"Well the Peninsula Hotel is just down the street, we could walk, and they have an outdoor bar on the roof with a nice sitting area and heat lamps that is open very late." He looked at her and tried to read her reaction. Initially while they danced, and again when he felt the her body brush against them as they clasped arms, he had felt electricity, he could even feel himself hardening.

God it felt so good to feel that way about a woman, a sense of passion and desire. He was careful, he didn't want to scare her. She was a lady, and he was a gentlemen, but he smiled, was she the perfect woman...and absolute lady in public...and a (you can fill in the blank with your favorite term here ;)) in the sheets? He would unfortunately probably never get to know, but she had his mind working, and his other parts responding...

"I know the Peninsula very well.... Fun fact... My father designed the Peninsula, he's retired now but out of the many buildings he's helped or designed himself, that was his absolute favorite." It's a lovely night to walk over, shall we?" Pam couldn't believe she was having a drink with a married man, not to mention at a very fancy hotel. There really was no harm in it, right?

Rick was quite the gentleman, for a moment, Pam wondered what he would be like in bed. It had been some time since she had any intimacy with a man. She shouldn't be thinking these thoughts, but she imagined his hands exploring her body, their bodies intertwined together, his hungry mouth on hers. She could feel herself become flushed as they walked to the hotel. It was likely nene ear to happen, but she couldn't get the visual out of her head. Was he thinking the same thing about her?

Pam turned to Rick, speaking quietly as she grabbed his hand,"Rick, I can't thank you enough for this amazing evening and it's not even over yet. I can't remember the last time I've felt this alive... Smiled and laughed as much as I have tonight, and most of all, saving me from Bill Campbell." She placed a kiss on his cheek and smiled."Shall we go have that drink?"

He felt her lips on his cheek, and it took every ounce of self control, not to spin her around, take her in his arms and really kiss her. “Well thank you my lady, it is a real honor”. He thought about Bill Campbell, he was pleased that he had avoided het that, but more pleased that his chivalry had afforded the opportunity for them to get to know each other.

“That is incredible regarding your father, any fun facts on the hotel or other places he has done?” They walked into the bar and there was an open love seat under the heat lamp overlooking the city, “Would this be okay, I know it is a bit romantic, but I promise not to try anything, unless encouraged” Rick winked and smiled, and held Pam’s hand as they sat down, they were still holding hands long after they were well situated

When Pam kissed Rick, the feel of her lips against his warm skin sent shivers down her spine. She almost wished he had turned his head and kissed her passionately on the lips, it had been so long since she had a real toe curling, turn her legs to jelly, causing butterflies kiss. He smelled amazing, she just wanted to lay her head on his chest and nuzzle her face into his neck. He took her hand and laced his fingers with hers.

When they got up to the rooftop bar and found a love seat in front of the firepit, Pam sighed, "Oh Rick, I forgot how beautiful it is up here, the view is just spectacular." My father also designed The Diamond, The Windsor, The Emerald Tower and The Seascape, all 5 star hotels downtown. Not many people know this but the Seascape has a penthouse suite with its own swimming pool. The Emerald, many famous celebrities stay there when they are in town."

Pam was enjoying getting to know Rick. She knew it would be short lived and he would eventually have to go home to his family, but she wasn't ready to part ways with him yet, she noticed that he was still holding her hand, which she didn't mind whatsoever. He ordered drinks for them when the waiter came over.

Their wine delivered, they began to sip and Rick turned toward Pam, resting his arm on the backrest behind her. "Have you ever visited the other hotels, swam in the Seacape penthouse pool?"

He was lost in her eyes, the candlelight from the table in front of them, her eyes were lit and captivating. "You are a fascinating woman, how is it possible that men have allowed you to stay single for so long?". He caught himself, she was so attractive, but that was possibly thoughtless.

"I am sorry, you clearly had a wonderful marriage and he was a terrific man...I just meant you are so lovely, and it would be a shame to not allow yourself to find love again".

As they sat quietly and sipped their wine, Rick had asked he if she ever swam in n the Seascape penthouse pool or stayed in any of the other hotels. " I have had a swim in the pool and stayed in all of the hotels", she said with a proud smile. "Just one of the perks of being the architect's daughter."

She noticed that he did not take his eyes off hers, almost as if her were mesmerized by them, his eyes had the same effect on her as well. She hesitated before answering his questions about her still being single. "To be honest, I've already had the great love of my life. Yes, I miss having love in my life and the companionship, but when you've suffered a loss such as mine or anyone that's ever lost a spouse, sometimes it's difficult to move on." She wiped a single tear away.

Pam placed her hand on Rick's to let him know that she got what he was saying. "Thank you, Rick, that's very kind of you. Who knows, maybe someday I will stumble upon my next great love someday." Now enough about me, I would love to know more about you." How did you become such a wonderful dancer?" Tell me more...."
